Literature and readings.

I've been an avid reader since a young age and have enjoyed almost every book I've read. As time goes on I'm finding myself enjoying more and more classical literature. I've recently finished about 5 of Shakespeare's plays and by tomorrow evening I should be done with Beowulf and some related readings. Does anyone have a fav genre/author/series they'd like to share with me? I'm also looking for something to pick up and read.

Haven't read much in a while that wasn't work related or just total junk, but you should read William Gibson's Neuromancer if you haven't.

Also, I am a big fan of JD Salinger, Poe, and short fiction in general (see anthologies). I should dust off the shakespear and read some.

If you're into classics, read Dumas, especially the Count of Monte Cristo. It's a terrific book--my all time favorite. Just make sure you get an unabridged edition, like the Modern Library one.

I am like you, an avid reader. Sounds like you're on the road to great literature too, reading Shakespeare and Beowulf. As a follow-up to Beowulf, you might try reading "Grendel", it's the story told from the monster's POV.

If you haven't read any Poe, definately take the time to check that out. There's some really good poetry out there too. A few of my fav's are "Christabel" and "Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner."

Also check out the Twain stories as they're really good.

A hard, but excellent read is "Paradise Lost"
Another good one is Chaucer's "Cantebury Tales"

If you really want to challenge yourself, read "The Sound and the Fury"
