I had a big mess of steamer clams last weekend. Have not had a lobster recently, but love 'em.

Three pounds is too big, man. Good for chowder, lobster salad, but for eating out of the shell give me a nice 1 1/2 pounder any day. Way sweeter.

i'm ok with 3 pounders. i know what you mean, it's better to get two 1 1/2 pounders .. but between a big one and a small one, i'd rather go for the big one.

besides, it's a matter of .. sort of like ePeen. i like BIG lobsters. (biggest i had was nearly 5 pounds and it tasted fine)

And i'm heading to Maine at the end of this month.
Red's lobster rolls and fried clam bellies ftw!

don't boil your lobster. Steam it (or them) with a single bottle of beer poured into the cook pot instead. Then instead of using melted butter for your dip, mix some mayonnaise and Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce.

it does NOT taste like chicken (angry face smiley here)

lobster tastes of (surprise) lobster.

yes to steaming, it's better, but when i was in the hamptons i would get 4 lobsters for $20 (5 x $20 on thursdays), so meh. two for lunch, two for dinner, and boiling is easier.

also steaming takes longer.

honestly i don't get the butter thing, i eat mine plain, without the help of a lobster-cracking tool (my teeth do just fine and yes, i eat the whole lot), if i really could, i'd have a green sauce of parsley, olive oil, and fresh garlic. just a wee bit of it, as dippin sauce.

Agreed that steaming is better than boiling. You can also grill them. It's harder to do right, however.
