Invitation only.

it's a recession .. don't expect any invites till GT200
- GX2 and 9800 evidently flopped and are being discounted ... maybe someone will be recalled

what forum is this?

look ... just get either of the damn Pairs of RAM
-or both
-- or none

happy now?

I personally had a stick of pc8500 ballistix fail after 4 months.

out of two pairs of D-9 PC8500, purchased weeks apart - one crucial one certified for SLi - i had one stick out of each pair fail .. i gave up and am sticking with over-clocking PC6400

it is a mystery to me why Crucial advertises the Ballistix DDR2 to run 2.2v especially with all the failures. Or, are the failures really as bad as it appears? Would like to see the real failure rate percentage of these.

2.2v is just too much for hard core 24/7 use in most cases it seems. Maybe with good chips and good cooling you can get away with it, but I think that 2.0 is probably much better for long-term use.

so I just saw how incredibly cheap ddr2 is right now and decided to get another 2x1 gb kit. I saw that the 4-4-4-12 pc 6400 ballistix and corsair xms are $29 AR at newegg, and even the dominators are only $39 AR. I almost pulled the trigger on the dominators until I noticed that they (and the regular xms) are no longer using d9's.

What's the deal with this? Are those proMOS chips as good as d9s? I've always thought that dominators are the way to go, but now I'm actually leaning towards more crucials or maybe another brand.

the Micron D9 chip which crucial uses is at best like your avatar. There great sprinters, but they die very easily. I myself have gone though 3 pairs of tracers.

They love voltage like crack, and like crack it destorys them.

Keep the voltage Near 1.95, dont exceed it, and put an active fan on it. Thats the way i found out for them to actually live longer then 3 months on heavy load.

But crucials are the best overclocking ram i have ever had. I have 3 pairs. Also bryan they dont have that annoying memory problem you had. They have no problems booting at low voltage.

I've gone through 3 pairs of G.Skill HZ DDR2-800. I've run them at the recommended 2.1v 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 and they die within months. I have since switched to the G.Skill PQ (2x 2GB) set which runs DDR2-800 5-5-5-15 @ 1.8v

There must be something wrong with some motherboards' voltage to the memory slots. I can't believe the number of failed D9's.

I've had my G.Skill HZ's for about a year and they work flawlessly (hope it continues!). I have recently added the 2x2GB Ballistix - but they all work at 2.013V and 667MHz.

Hope they last!

It's the IC, not the mobo. Even volt modded boards get dead D9s. Before my G.Skill I had some crucial 10th anniversary memory that died.

It's really not a matter of if, but rather when. Anyway, I don't need to have super duper low latency overclocked "OMG world record" memory. That's the reason I've switched to low voltage at the rated speed I want to have (400Mhz FSB in my case 1:1)

thats 0.2 volts below what the D9s are speced at. You are just undervolting it so they last longer. Actually you are also underclocking it apperantly since those chips run at 800mhz, not 667. so yea... a part that is supposed to pretty much last forever cause there are no moving parts or capacitors (RAM) lasted more then a year on your computer with a 0.2v undervolt and a downclock of 133mhz (from 800 to 677)... Color me unimpressed

LOL

also, I have a 10 year old computer with some PC100 that hasn't had ANY bad memory, no fried sticks.

Why do D9s that are rated at 2.1v die so quickly at their rated voltage, speed, and timings? I went through 3 sets in 5 months. How come old memory is still going strong and the new stuff (supposedly better?) died? Even with active cooling. Just give me something that works at the speed it's rated at with as little voltage as possible.

I am not trying to impress anyone.

My G.Skill HZ's were running at 2.013V and 800MHz until about 1 month ago, when I decided to increase my CPU frequency from 325 x 9 = 2.925GHz to 333 x 9 = 3.0GHz, and running memory 1:1 with the FSB produced the smoothest gameplay in NHL 08.

Again, 2x1GB HZ kit was at 800MHz since April 2007 until March 2008, and 2x512MB HZ kit was at 800MHz since June 2007 until March 2008.

Rated at 2.0 - 2.1V. Not undervolted. As specified.

Got G.Skill 4GBPK with Powerchip IC's in February - my MB initially would not boot, then produced tons of Memtest errors at any frequency, including 800 and 667MHz. RMA.

Then got the Ballistix 2 weeks ago, and am happy.

At 667MHz.

And 2.013V.

And if you can show me a serious performance gain by going to 800MHz and breaking 1:1, please do so.

SuperPi 1M is same at around 18s, and 2M is slower by 2 sec (~46s).

A stable system is priceless.

For everything else, there is....

Well, you know the drill.
