Looking for a notebook

Hey guys, got a question for you.

I work in computers at Best Buy, found an HP I really like there - one of those with the nice hi-def screen and the a64. There's just the small fact that I: a.) want something a little less mainstream and b.) kinda want to pick out the parts myself. Not going to save much money with the employee discount anyways - we don't get jack on computers. So screw the Best Bizzle, I'll buy the thing somewhere else.

Was wondering if maybe some people here could help me out? I'm looking for something under $1400 - it's going to be my graduation gift.

I want something fast, with a hella fine display and as good of a graphics card as I can get in it. Hard drive size is unimportant, as I'll have it networked to my desktop when I'm in the dorm. RAM is trivial as well, it's just cheaper to buy it seperate. DVD/CDRW combo drive, some sort of wireless...

But yea, more or less, I need something fast that can play some of the new games and such. If it can do that, I imagine taking notes in class won't be much of a problem. =D

Nice but not for the price tag.. I can't swallow 2690.00 or there abouts for that thing.. You would be best off lookin for a nice Emachine or something 2 that effect for your price range.

2699? I do not know where you are located, but we Canucks can get it for $1750 CAD. Unless I missed some radical USD value change, it should be cheaper in America.

My bad that was an Australa site.. OOPS... First thing that came up on google didn't c where it was.. LOL.. Priced one out a bit over a grand no Mem and no OS and No HDD.. But with extended warranty..

It looks like they call it "Z80" in US. As a result, googling for it returns you a pile of old zilog-related crap. Why the hell do companies have to confuse their customers like that? First it was limited only to graphics cards(ATI, Nvidia), then Intel and AMD joined the fray, and now pretty much everyone is competing in "confuse your customers the most" game... </rant>

Rock on. For the OS/HD/ram issue, I can handle that.

I got Windows I can put on it, an HD's easy enough to find, and ram is cheaper aftermarket anyways.

That asus looks pimp, I'm def gonna have to look into it more. Thanks for the suggestion.

Anybody else reading got an opinion?
