Did you already buy all the other parts?

Seriously, Im curious why you would go socket 939 on this computer if it is new?

What do you have already.

I have 2 GB (4X512) of matched corsair platinum for sale in the FS/FT section that ran in an A8N-SLI Deluxe for ~2 years. You may want to check out used RAM - there are some really good deals from people like me who upgraded to C2D and needed DDR2.

Depends on what you're doing. The rig you have it sort of old, so I don't know what info to give you as I don't know the state of DDR anymore. I would look for good deals and a good return policy (assuming you're buying it new).

I bought Crucial for my latest build as I wanted Micron D9 chips. I've had all sorts of RAM from generic to high end - I've never had problems with any of them. The high end stuff just gives you more headroom for overclocking and lower latencies (which is not really noticeable outside of a benchmarking utility imo).

If you're not doing any insane overlocking, look for some Corsair value RAM. I put these in lots of machines (for work and for friends) and I've never had problems. And, the price is usually excellent.

Seconding corsair/crucial/kingston value RAM. The first I've used in my own PCs years ago and Crucial we use in work on a rather large scale and we've never had problems (I could sing their praises all day...).

Would this work with my motherboard? on the crucial website it says my motherboard is compatible with DDR 500 (PC 4000) Ram

Click

This is faster then DDR 400 (PC 3200) Ram right?

I would get 2 sets of these to equal 2GB or would it be worth it to get 4GB?

and I will use it mostly for gaming, video editing, pictures, school stuff

Just to add...

I am RMA'ing some twinx memory with Corsair right now and so far everything has gone ok. Well, as far as the RMA process goes... yeah the memory burning out was kind of a drag. Anyways go with someone who has a good warranty.

As an aside, I want to go from 2gb to 4gb and I don't want to lose the dual channel or nice timings. I should buy the same modules right down to the version number correct?

You'd only need 4GB for really, really heavy-duty stuff. Lots of high-res video editing and whatnot, though I'm sure some people will disagree. But personally I think 2GB RAM is easily well enough for most stuff at the moment. Don't invest any more into it because by the time you need more than 2GB for anything we'll all be using DDR2 anyway.
