Losing motivation for multiplayer & online gaming

It started getting worse recently, after my move into 4K/living room gaming. I bought a xbox 1 controller a few months ago and needed a replacement, ghost input and direction issues.

I began researching the elite controller and expanded into other specialized, pricier gear. I ended up buying one here on AT FS/T. I was shocked to see how much of an advantage it provided over the regular controller in PES 17 and a few other games too. My biggest win streaks went from 4-5 games to 15-20, goal average went from 1.2 to 2,37 in a matter of weeks. I have a decent mouse and KB, always had decent hardware but never was an item as P2W as the controller. That got me thinking about other input gear that can help accuracy or combo move executions, KB/mouse macros and monitors with crosshair function. You get the idea, going vs others is starting to sound less appealing and this is just one facet of facing others.

The last three times I tried to play the Division after long breaks, servers for down. I realize that's just my luck, others may have a better experience but as a old school gamer, it really sucks when you have to have to be online to access the singleplayer content that's already installed on your hard drive, this artificial obstacle drives me nuts. Also, lag spikes. Please don't tell me I'm a statistical outlier again but many games I'm cruising at low two digit latencies..until a crucial moment, at that point it's like I'm on a EDGE connection.

Finally, there is the fun aspect of multiplayer games factored by balance, cheating and the company you are in. I remember playing BF4 with Childs and a few other AT'ers in the squad, we were unstoppable. I wish I recorded the session, Childs was playing like possessed but then everyone left, the same group never assembled since. Even Counter Strike had it's balance issues and there were team/map based exploits besides hacking but it wasn't as blatant as it is today.

The uber competitiveness always existed but now it's given free reign and it poured into mainstream where it doesn't belong. I don't want to face a guy who inhaled every game guide on day 1, plays at low settings just to keep pumping steady 144fps into his crosshair monitor. This guy has his place but not vs. average gamer yet that seems to be a common scenario in F2P games, some are more discreet than others but typically the average guy is fed to the competitor. Even "traditional" games are caving under publisher pressure to include $ items on top of DLC's, season passes and all the other crap they peddle. As games continue to increase complexity, exploits are more frequently found as well, typically addressed after the elite got most out of them. Or maybe I'm just getting old, I'm a VPN user myself but the idea of exploiting time zones to start playing a few hours earlier doesn't appeal to me either.

The Video Gaming "community" has, for a long time, been the worst thing about video gaming. I don't play online unless it is a co-op game, with the exception of GTA V, which has the absolute worst community of anything I've ever experienced first hand, video games and otherwise.

This trend is not changing. It is probably getting worse based on the games that have been released in the last year. It is awful. Don't fight it. Just don't play those games.

The only thing I can stomach to play anymore is rocketleague and the occasional BF game. BF has taken a back seat to rocketleague for me. The rocketleague community is great. About the only thing they ever say to you is "Nice shot!" Or, "What a save!"
