I don't think that Ben can see or hear Jacob. The way he was "talking" to Jacob seemed sooo fake, like it was written and acted to sound fake. Also, he REALLY wanted to know what Jacob said to Locke. Unless Jacob did some mind meld to Locke, I don't think Ben can hear or see Jacob. We've seen before how he wants to be one with the island, but he can't, unlike Locke who is now a threat to him.

I had read some stuff on the web claiming Ron Perlman(Hellboy) was the actor who plays Jacob, but I couldn't verify if it was true. They purported to show the credits for the show which listed Perlman as Jacob. It certainly didn't look like Perlman, but it definitely sounded like him. Its possible someone saw the show in advance and decided it sounded like Perleman and made the whole thing up.

On this site they dispel Perlmans role:

Theory?

Did Dharma put the "hostiles" on the island as well. Maybe they did a science/education vs. "natives," who were born on the island (placed there by Dharma originally), this could explain the island's "powers" keep Richard looking young. Could Ben be the man behind the man behind the man (Ben-Richard-Jacob) or is Jacob just a bunch of smoke and mirrors employed by Richard? Is Richard really the man behind the curtain?

Maybe it is a recreation of earth some how? All one big experiment (with ultimately Dharma being in control from the start until now). Maybe the true experiment is that Dharma wants to see if/how the "science" side would get around the sonic fence, and if they did and how they would react when interacting with the "natives" in a MACRO sense, maybe you have to appreciate the forest for the trees, and not fret over the stations on the islands, but more of a "native" vs dharma approach, with Richard pulling the strings? Or is Jacob pulling strings on someone or Richard or what?

Kinda confusing.

That is a very interesting take and seems like one of the most reasonable ones I've read about.

Hmmm...Maybe Jacob is like Vigo from Ghostbusters II in that he needs a baby to inhabit, hence the Others interest in pregnant women. They needz a baby!

Nothing really revelational, but its interesting how many times they refer to Parent/Child conflicts in this.

Jack and his dad.
Ben and his dad.
Locke and his dad.
Kate and her mom/step-dad.
Sawyer and his mom/dad.
Hurley and his dad.
Sun/Jin and both of their set of parents.

Just seems like there is an overriding theme here with conflict and some sort of resolution but often ending up in death.

I think his daughter knew that Ben wanted to shoot locke. She gave the gun to Locke knowing that Ben would then take it.

The way she said "Happy Birthday" to him kind of made me think that she was giving it as a favor to Ben and not Locke.

So, if the hostiles killed the Dharma people, why does Dharma continue to send them supplies via drop ship?

Not only that, What about the guy that was working with Desmond when he came to the island. Was he an other? or Dharma? that wasn't too long ago in terms of when the losties arrived.

How Long have the others been in control? Its seems to have been a long time but they also took over the research like nothing happened. So I guess it was seamless to Dharma headquarters.

I don't know.

I don't know.

You would think, though, that the Dharma people would still be upset about their team and their families getting slaughtered.

Yes, more questions, but there were some answers, and in general it was just a good episode.

I think some people have just heard so much about the unanswered questions in Lost that they've decided the only way an episode can be good anymore is if it answers big questions. I don't look at it that way. I think the last 5-7 (I don't remember exactly) episodes have been fantastic, and while they haven't answered all the questions people have, they've been good episodes in and of themselves.

this is going be one of the best/worst season finales the show has ever seen. Best as in, well... the best. Quite a bit will likely be answered, but more questions will be raised to draw us into next season, but the worst in that its probably going to be the most painful cliffhanger with a lot of very important questions raised, whilst only answering maybe one or two relatively big nagging questions that have been around forever.
I still remember last season's finale, and they haven't touched upon ANY of that essentially. The whole magnetic system and causing the plane to crash and all. I have a feeling that will be revisited next season, in one of those episodes where they recap what happened quite a while ago in the show and continue the story from there. They have done that numerous times, where the 'previously on Lost' segment is actually stuff from towards the beginning of the season, and they continued with it from there. Hell, I think I've seen an episode or two where the 'Previously...' segment was recalling events from the previous season.

This episode was fantastic, and raised quite a few big questions. Really looking forward to the next episode and the finale.

24 is ending quite strong and will make for one strong tv week. Sadly that week is also the week I have major assignments due. dammit! lol

I have yet to watch this past mondays episode, but the episodes previous to that were terrible. 24 went so downhill this season it's not even funny. The show is like a trainwreck. I can't remember any season of a show where I've seen so many people looking forward to a season finale just so they won't have to devote any time to the show anymore.

24 is incredibly lame now and I will not be watching it as it airs next season no questions asked.

Perhaps Dharma no longer exists? It's Supplies funded by some Trust Fund, Suppliers just Air Drop on a Schedule. I think either Dharma is gone or unaware that Its' island operation has been destroyed.

As per Ben's flashbacks, Dharma was there to study certain unique qualities about the island. I don't think the Child birthing issue was part of that research. That was probably something the Others started on their own, since they seem determined to live there and dominate there(why they don't want anyone to leave, to keep it secret). Doesn't really explain how the Others have so much reach into the outer world with Intel and such or how/why they seem to have had prior contact with all the Losties in some fashion(unless all that contact was at the Airport in Sydney, but I'm pretty sure it went way before that with many).

I thought it's pretty cool that "The Others" are solely natives and that the Dharma people are no longer around at all.

makes me wonder how/why Juliette was recruited if Dharma wasn't running the show on the island anymore.

cause of her knowledge of how to make people have babies who were infertile (like her sister).

If Dharma didn't exist, why would the food and supplies that is dropped currently still have the Dharma logo plastered all over it? Also, who staged the fake plane wreck with dead bodies? The natives are, well, native to the island (though they obviously aren't tribal savages), so where would they get the money and expertise to do all that they do? I think Dharma must still exist somehow.

And NO, the island isn't purgatory. Notice how when Ben and his dad came to the island, they didn't die and then just show up. They were recruited and brought in by Dharma. There were people already living there who didn't like Dharma. And purgatory would have a lot more people than the island does. And the producers flat out said it isn't purgatory. If it was, I expect they would've said "that's an interesting idea" or something like that and beyond that would've remained silent on the idea.

Although that may be true, that is quite an assumption to make with the current data given.

Just saw it on abc.com. WTFBBQ?!

ben was in on the plot to kill the Darma Inititive?!

Richard was one of initial Hostiles? then Ben is just Richard's puppet?

What happened to the girl that befriended young Ben? Is she the French woman, Russo?
Could Ben's daughter, Alex, being his biological daughter if Russo is the mom?

Why did Ben have the gun?

The head guy running the Darma Inititive on the island-> What was his title on his work clothes?

No, I believe Ben is the leader because Jacob only talks to him. I believe this is why Ben shot Locke. Because Jacob actually talked to Locke, whereas up to this point, Jacob had only talked to Ben, thus putting Ben in a position of power amongst "The Others."

I'm going to re-watch this episode later so i can pick up on more stuff. But it seems the vision of his mother (obviously dead) was influenced somehow by Jacob.
