I have a legit, original copy of the Win2000 Server and cannot find the the CD key anywhere. How do I go about getting a legit new/replacement one? Also I do not have it installed anywhere so if there's a method of looking it up, it won't help me.

Thanks.

If you registered with MS, give them a call and see what they say. Otherwise, it may be tough....

I just happen to have gone through this recently...(W/XP)...
I am installed & would love to know how to look it up...however...
After talking to MS...(Second & final free tech solution on a 3 yr old disk)...
She informed me that they would re-generate a new number for $10...
now comes the good part...
First she asked for my email address...
Then, after a few mins. she read the new key...(Which I carefully copied in three places)...
When I asked if she wanted my cc#...she replied it would'nt be necessary...?!!
"OK, have a nice day"...No email conformation...2 days later...MS calls, wants to know
if my problem is resolved...I tell the story...she says they will call back...Have not heard from them since.
Have not re-installed yet, so don't know if key is good...
But...that is their policy...& proceedure...
Good lu7k,
D

Also here - there are several of these around. They work. But, this gives you choices of Windows versions:

You need to run this program.

http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

this will tell you your key installed on that machine you're running.

The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a freeware utility that retrieves your Product Key (cd key) used to install windows from your registry. It has the options to copy the key to clipboard, save it to a text file, or print it for safekeeping. It works on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Office 97, and Office XP. This version is a quick update to make it work with Windows Server 2003.

Call MS.

Unless it's a corporate version.

Then you have the cd key on the cd in the i386\winnt.sif file under

Cruzlite, did you have to pay any fee for MS support? The only info. I found on their website listed phone support at $245 and up. I need free if possible. Do you by chance still have the number you phoned?

Thanks!

Thanks Cruzlite! The whole process was quick and painless. Haven't tested the key yet but I'm not too worried about it not working--might test it on my backup disk.
