Looking great - I love how aggressive it is from the front. The M235i got some good praise, so I'm very hopeful for this car.

The N55 is an excellent engine. I had a F30 335i, and it was fairly quick. I'm glad to see they tweaked it a bit for "more power." Wonder how much it will dyno at, as BMW tends to underrate.

I do wish it had M mirrors, and lost some weight. 3450-3505 lbs is a bit heavy. If they made a GTS version that weighed 3100-3200 lbs, it would be a real M car.

Wtf it weights as much as the m4, thought the 1/2 class is supposed to be smaller than the 3/4?
Seems bmw is slapping an m badge on pretty much anything, can't wait for the mi3.

I just took the curb weight from here.

Curb weight comparo:
Car: Manual/Auto (all lbs)
M2: 3450/3505
M3: 3540/3595
M4: 3530/3585
M4 GTS: 3329
M5: 4354/4387
M6: 4250
M6 GC: 4430

Why can't BMW just make a simple light weight car (3000-3200) with 300 or so horsepower? Is it so much to ask for?

It is smaller, but not by much. Less than a foot shorter in overall length, just a couple inches in width, and actually a little bit taller.

1/2's are more about a different feel to the car, they aren't significantly smaller.

i think to make a car that light weight, they'd just have to ditch the rear seats.

they could have easily made a new Z4 coupe with a fixed roof and hit that range.

a 228i actually is pretty close. they are like 3300 lbs. and if you tore the seats out got no moonroof, and got manual seats you are right there. there was a rumor early on tha tthe M2 might have been a very tuned 2.0 turbo N20 and lighter, but I guess they went with the n55 instead which is quite a bit more weight

went to two dealers today to try to get on the waitlist for an M2 allocation at MSRP.

one place said $10k over msrp and i was like gtfo,

rumored base price is 51-52k. i think its a decent upgrade over a m235i at $43-44k honestly. nav is standard, and all the M specific things make it a fairly decent deal actually.

seems like almost no one can make it for anything remotely close to a reasonable price.

i dont get why subaru and toyota dont just do it. every 300+ hp car is well over 3000 lbs because they tend to be luxury and have a lot of luxury things. and all the non luxury cars dont have enough power.

the closest thing to what you are asking for is a cayman or boxster S, but then its absurdly expensive. or a bunch of overpowered FWD cars.

i guess something like a alfa 4c maybe, but its not even remotely close to practical

They could make that Z4, but I don't think that's part of the BMW strategy going forward. They definitely have a new vision, and are targeting a different crowd. 228i is not bad, the N26 is a decent engine for a turbo 4.

Also, looking at the trend for high performance cars in this class, it's moving towards AWD, and automatic exclusively. I'm glad BMW still offers RWD and manuals. Audi and MB's have tech and luxury, adding weight. The M division needs to make a GTS out of the M2, M3, M4 models for a more enthusiast focused car.

No, too little. 300 HP, that's seriously underpowered!

...that's what the HP-fanboys will cry, at least.
300 HP is decent, especially when you have something lighter. I think these folks tend to forget sports cars back in the day didn't have much power, and they were also a bit lighter. Take a look at the Alfa Romeo 4C - RWD, Turbo 4 putting down 237 hp/258 lb-ft tq and weighs 2465 lbs. It's not high horsepower, but it rockets to 60 mph in a quick 4.1s, not bad at all.

seems like almost no one can make it for anything remotely close to a reasonable price.

Yep, we are definitely seeing more tech and luxury in lower end manufacturers. Cayman and Boxster are nice expensive options, even the 4C starts at $54k (although our local dealer wants close to $70k for one, and at that point you might as well go Cayman)

What I noticed is that they changed 3 sets of tires within that short commercial. NO THANKS! :awe:

I was excited for this car until they released the weight. I'd rather just get an M3/4, but I already have an old M5 so even though it's much quicker it's just too redundant for me. Guess I'll be looking elsewhere!

Nice. Knowing how much the 1M owners love their cars, I can't see you regretting the decision anytime soon.

The styling is nice, but the engine is just a chipped 235i.

I really wanted to like it as I could easily plow the money into a brand new M2 (lead times are ridiculous according my dealer). Probably going to settle for an M4 next year (waiting for LCI / comp pack).

I had a 135i and loved it. Great, smooth car. Fit and finish was nice. Tight steering, tons of torque, and a very easy manual gear box. Stock run flats left a lot to be desired and some interior materials felt lower end for a BMW. Overall the car was a complete driver's package.

The thing that always bugged me about BMW was how they nickle and dime every detail. The standard cars are usually completely stripped. They wanted $500 to plug a iphone in and another $500 just to use sirius. It has been a few years since I've shopped them, but that was what turned me off buying another one.

Super narrow and jerky shots to give the feeling of INTENSITY and SPEED!

Yeah, okaaay. Anyway, 3500lbs? Wtf? A CRV weighs that much.

BMW is smoking some bad crack trying to sell an M4 for $130K. That is Porsche 911 Turbo/GT3 territory. And that spoiler looks horribly out if place on the M4.
