I can't believe people here are defending insurance companies. But that's typical atot, launching personal attacks at me instead of looking at the big picture. I KNOW why it is the way it is, but I don't have to agree with it.
insurance companies just provide the service that you are required by law to have. your minimum limits are mandated by the state/province, not by those companies. they compete for your business, and you can shop around for lower premiums. at least in america. but a lot of it depends on your driving record. get a few speeding tickets or get in an accident that's your fault? your rates are gonna go up, i guarantee it. (well unless you purchased accident forgiveness)
also, i always figured it would be cheaper in canada, since i thought that the national health care would just cover the bodily injury claims, so really the insurance would only have to handle property damage?
