Ok ppl, i got in some big trouble. Heres the story:
I have MAC OS 9.1 on an imac. I was surfing the web are all of a sudden the computer froze. I unpluged the computer and restarted. Well, I restarted to a gray screen with a blinking question mark in the middle. I put in my 9.1 install/recovery disk and I got past that, but It took me to my desk top with nothing but two icons, my trash and cd icon. THe wallpaper is full of cd icons. Otherwise there is nothing else. When I click on the cd icon and click on install it gives me an error saying "no destination disk has been choosen". Also I can't get my cd out. I have tried restarting many times. I am totally stumped, any help would be great.

Try "Disk First Aid", Apple's disk recovery software. It rarely helps. You may need to get a disk utility program such as Norton Utilities or Disk Warrior.

RTFM? If there is a cd eject button on that imac, push it when you hear the chimes on a re-start. No button? Then you gotta start reading the emergency manual, the answer is in there.

This tells me that your hard is not being detected by the system. Pop that Imac open and see if hard drive is still attached. If so, do what Bubba suggests and try a hard drive utility program.

Chances are, if the 9.1 CD does not detect your hard drive, neither will the Norton or any other utility, but it's worth a try. Good luck with it.

To get the CD to eject, try dragging the CD icon to the Trash. It 'should' eject it.

lazyass is correct, for some reason you system is not detecting a hard drive. Run Disk First Aid when you boot up from the CD. Disk First Aid may be able to fix the problems with the disk. If not, run Disk Setup and see if can see the drive there. If you can see the drive in Disk Setup, you may able to use a disk utility program to fix the drive (Norton Utilities or MacTest Pro).

If Disk Setup does not see the drive, then your drive is probably dead and will need to be replaced.

To eject your CD, restart the system and while the system is booting up, hold down the mouse button. This will eject any CDs before the boot process starts.
