Driver support and an OS actually saying "your hardware isn't in my list, I won't install" are 2 different things. Tell me how MS XP won't install on older hardware other than limitations like not enough ram for setup files, ect. I've installed XP on a 233mhz P2, now try that on a Macintosh 9600/350 with OSX. You can't even install OS 9.2 on that!

I am one of the people apple would like to call a "convert." I was a OCer for a while..but it got old. The final nail in the coffin for me was when HL went the way of STEAM...and there was no high speed internet here. I was doing good on pre-STEAM HL with my 56k with latency of 90ms - 150ms. The second STEAM came around it shot up to 1500ms. ..to top it off my motherboard died soon after. So I decided to jump ship and try a mac. I got an iBook and love it. I like OS X. I am not and never will be interested in coding or anything of the nature. I looked into starting it and really didn't enjoy it. I like the feel and organization of OS X. Sure I maybe paid more for my iBook than someone who bought a budget Windows lappy last year, but to me its worth it. Also..Expose...got to love it! Especially in Photoshop or anything where you have many documents open at once. I really got tired of the Windows world of having to take care of the clutter every week. I'm not anti PC..just haven't seen anything worthwhile in my book. Like above...show me a CHEAP AMD 64 lappy with EXCELLENT battery life, light weight, and I might flop back over. Another thing is I like how quiet all the Mac I use are. That was one of the things that got tiring on PCs.

tsk...tsk... If FireWire 800 is the only selling point you can come up with for a Mac...

And you probably believe Firewire 800 really reaches 800Mbit too don't ya?

The truth is PCs don't NEED Firewire 800. Where are all these great devices that run on it? All the good stuff is USB 2.0...

As for upgrading, let us be realistic. Ya, you can upgrade the CPU. But for HOW LONG? The truth is (as many others have pointed out) the PC platform pretty much allows you to carry a set of hardware through several generations, and at a MUCH lower TCO than Mac.

Mac laptops are infinitely better than any PC laptop. They perform the same, but just look so awesome and have excellent design and power usage, the ultimate point of the laptop, really. That said, desktop PCs are infinitely better than desktop Macs, just because you can get that $300 Dell that'll just work for 5 years.

I never said FireWire 800 was a selling point of the Mac. No where in my posts did I say this in anyway.

Like I JUST SAID earlier, FW 800 is very neat and not much else. (A Mac lovers dream). And thats still only on the MOTHERBOARDS! Nowhere else. Plenty of PCI cards makes this a silly argument.

And noone said anything about upgrading JUST your CPU. Yes, you can upgrade your G4 933 to a G4 1500. And thats it, no more. You completely ignored the point I was making about moving up several generations in the AMD world, and only having to change CPU's and maybe MB's once in a while.
As is often the case when I discuss the topic, the Mac proponent either dazzles us with ignorance or fights reality so hard its almost painful.
And before the next argument starts, I did own a mac just long enough to experience all the things I dislike about them.

I have a Powermac G4 400. There are PLENTY of G4 upgrades, ranging from single 533mhz to Dual 1.7's. And there is NO NEED for me to upgrade my motherboard.

Wow. I've been gone for 6 hours and this pointless debate rages on.

For some people, Mac works very well. However, Apple's marketshare reveals that they missed the boat by not using the same standards that "competitors" use, namely following the x86 architecture. My P4 is faster than the G5s at work, and it's pretty old from a tech standpoint, not to mention it cost roughly half of a Mac. And my AMD 3200 Winch is a lot faster than my P4. So when the GAs tell me, "oh Macs are so much better than PCs", it's not because the Mac has better hardware, it's because the GAs can't figure out how to use anything that involves typing rather than pointing and clicking.

And about the Firewire 800, the 800 Mb/s is the maximum theoretical speed, not the aggregate speed. Since it fails to offer a true, significant speed increase in serial communication with peripheral devices, and since such few devices are 1394b compliant, I fail to see how this is a valid argument for getting a Mac.

Oh you people make me laugh. macs are on the border line of evolution. PCs will always dominate the market and they are going to extreme levels with the latest hardware that has been out. And Macs along with Mr Jobs will be left in the dust. It is true and the mac people know it. Macs have been around for a long time and I loved them when i used them in grade school with my little apple IIc. But times have changed and people look at the price first when they buy their goods.

I say if you want to lead the way into the future with great computing power, you have to let go of mac.

If you even paid any attention to previous posts, you would have saw that no one was saying that FireWire 800 was even a reason to get a Mac.

A good comparison of mac and pc is like VHS and BETA MAX. Yea BETA max offered higher quality than vhs and yes beta was all in all a great technology. But VHS overcame and pretty much took beta out. Then again beta didnt really have that much porno so that could have been another reason

Hell i bet some of these mac fans in here have beta machines LOL.

The best analogy was the car analogy. Macs are like Ferraris while PeeCees are like Pintos. Why would you want a Pinto when you can get a Ferrari that's much faster, reliable and sleek looking?

i mean who would take the extra time to put in 4 Es. seriously. it is like me doing this

See, now you would think that Ferrari would be more reliable than that Pinto with the whole expensive price tag and such, but you would be wrong

Terrible analogy.

Yea ok sarcasm? I dont think i said a word of sarcasm because i meant all of that. And i really wasnt making fun of any one more like giving advice. So next time open a dictionary... find the meaning of sarcasm and then stare into space because i am sure you do that alot, and post.

If you can do that then i will promise to come back to the Mcdonalds restaurant that you work as an assistant manager to the assistant manager.

Hey, wanker, the person that was being sarcastic was deathkoba. I never said you were the one being sarcastic. The reason I said your sarcasm meter sucks is that you could not pick up the obvious sarcasm in deathkoba's post. Perhaps you do not know what sarcasm is. Would you like me to get a dictionary quote for you?

My post still stands because you still didn't pick up the obvious sarcasm in deathkoba's post, regardless of your "edit." which really didn't change the meaning of your post much. You only added an extra line. Your sarcasm meter still sucks ass, simply because you miss obvious sarcasm.
