So much for the boycott, eh?
I boycotted it last year but to be honest, I've gone to a 2 year cycle on all my other sports games so Madden is now the same way.

I read some comments at another forum and one comment struck me as being accurate: Madden 12 seems a lot like Madden 09. Fortunately, Madden 09 was the first good version on the next gen consoles. The part I don't like is that they changed how you do audibles/hot routes/adjustments (I think that was done in Madden 11) and I don't like things like Game Flow. I turn Game Flow off and I've been told that you can revert back to the old audible system, so we'll see. I honestly didn't notice any major game play differences though I did notice that all the players look like they're wearing eye liner.
That said, I'm part of the problem, and I'll likely buy it since it's the only option for video game NFL football.
Just buy Madden and other sports games during Black Friday, you can typically get them 50% off. I won't buy them new anymore, but I don't mind getting them every year at 50%.
I've gone to an every-other-year schedule on all sports games unless the "off year" version has some incredibly new feature that I must have. Frankly, I wish the makers of sports games would do the same thing and in the "off years," release a DLC pack with new stadiums, uniforms, rosters, and maybe some minor tweaks for $20 or $30 while they work on the new version. I think we'd see better sports games that way.
That pretty much goes for all video game companies these days.Yea, this would be ideal from a consumer standpoint and the quality of the game, but all EA wants to do is squeeze the maximum amount of profits out of their customers.
I didn't buy last year's Madden either. I rented it though, and it was ok, but nothing spectacular.

Yea... and I don't blame them to be honest. They're a business and that their business to make as much money as possible. It's the same thing with Call of Duty. They'd be stupid not to release a game every year because they know people will buy it. The difference there though, is that there's competition. Don't like COD MW3 this year, grab BF3 or any other FPS game.
I know it's a tired argument now, but the situation for football games right now stinks. EA has been phoning it in since 2005 because of a lack of competition. I still remember the times before the exclusive agreement where there were at least 3-4 NFL football games, and like the sucker I was, I (or my parents) bought most of them. There was choice and competition, and it was great.
But as I said, I'm part of the problem since I'll likely buy Madden this year. That isn't to say I hate the game (obviously I don't), but the game could really benefit from a 2-3 year dev cycle so they can actually implement new things. But hey, EA is bringing a new EA Sports studio to Austin... I've got my fingers crossed that it's for football.
Yeah you're not helping things when you complain about and also contribute to a problem.
A few of the previews I have read has talked about how they have made improvements to the franchise, and like you I am hoping it is true.Less than 2 weeks before the release! I HOPE they've made decent improvements in franchise. I just wish we could have a good online franchise here on AT.
(P.S. I claim the Colts if that happens. )
Um, that's all EA games. They ditched the manuals a long time ago to "go green".$60 for a glorified roster update and they can't even be bothered with a physical manual? SLAP IN THE FACE!
