Just got my copy, waiting for me on my doorstep courtesy of Amazon and my $20 credit from them already applied to my account. :awe:
I really hate how every year they decide to change a few of the controls, especially when it comes to audibles, hot routes, etc... I know they have to do something to justify the $60 price tag, but that's just really annoying.
Indy, lemme know what you think when you play. I rented mine from gamefly, from the reviews I've read there are some serious issues with gameplay, but some decent improvements too.
Played a game and a half and so far, I am unimpressed. I am playing on All Pro and am admittedly rusty, but damn, WTF is this shit?
--Announcers are TERRIBLE. Examples: I received a kickoff and ran it up the field and was tackled. The announcers then talked about how I was a great running back and always found holes. Ditto when Cam Newton scrambled once. WTF?!?!
--Defense is stupid. Guys were running right by my defenders and they stood there and just looked at the RB run right by.
--Typical Madden where you get little pressure on their QB but they get tons on yours.
I am SO glad I ordered from Amazon.
EDIT: You can turn the audible system back to the old method.
Same story... different year it seems.
A lot of those gameplay issues won't be fixed until they move to a new engine.
Played one exhibition game last night... took my venerable Buffalo Bills against the Saints. I won 25-0... 2 sacks, 3 INTs against Brees.
Here's my notes:
- Running game is easy as pie. Run blocking is real good in the game making it easy to pick up 10+ yards.
- Passing game is pretty easy. Play like a real QB and use timing routes.
- AI Defense seemed to do its job when calling Gameplan plays. Like I said, I sacked Brees twice and picked him off 3 times. Also kept their running game stuffed... I don't think they had a single run of more than 6 yards on me.
- Kicking game is okay, better than the abominations they tried out the last few years.
- Ran into a couple hangups where it would go into between-play/replay mode and just sit there, no announcers, no action. Had to push a button to get to the next play.
- Play clock often doesn't leave you with enough time to get the snap off. You literally have about 2 seconds to pick a play out of your playbook if you want to get the play off without delay of game.
- Graphics are nice for the most part. Some of the player facial animations are scary looking though. Not as bad as previous versions though.
- Kind of upset that some "key" players didn't get their names voiced into the game. It's silly hearing the announcers say "Number 30 is a solid tackler..."
Over all, it's an adequate update to my last copy of Madden, which is Madden 10.
The last copy of madden i bought was 2008, coincedentally, the last year they made it for the PC. Still bitter about Madden and MVP Baseball being discontinued on the PC.... so very bitter.
I was dissappointed at first when they shut down the PC side, but since I got my 360 late last year and can play it once again, I can only imagine how bad of a port it would have been if they aren't putting too much effort into the console version as it seems.EA has even given up the pretense that they were just "taking a break" from the PC. When they announced 2009 would not be available, they said it would be back at a later date. They aren't even pretending now.
Good question.

So anyone starting an AT Madden league?
