Some categories, we who care, have no American-made options; computer goods, electronics, etc., but clothing, shoes, and tons of other categories, "Made in America" is still possible.

I don't give two shits about the "world economy," I only care about the American economy.

Sometimes I'll buy goods made in Europe, parts of "Oriental Asia," and a few other "free countries," but I go out of my way to avoid anything that's stamped, "Made in China," and flat refuse to buy anything that says, "Made in Vietnam."
I also avoid anything that's Made in India or Pakistan because the quality of those goods is usually even worse than the crap that comes from Korea.

How is this not racism? Everyone who went to that store is pretty much guaranteed to be white male driving a pickup truck with a kenny chesney cd in the player.

Oh and several bumper stickers saying proud to be american & join my militia to kill illegal immigrants.

Either that, or people who give a shit where their money goes, and would rather support their neighbors than someone on the other side of the planet :^S

Lawl, they better have a solid return policy for when shit breaks.

Also, the whole concept of buying because of where a product is made, rather than it's quality or bang for dollar value is fvcking stupid.

Make better shit and people will buy it.

That's part of the idea. A lot of people think the USA can make better quality products, and when it comes to cheap Asian made junk you get what you pay for. That may or may not be true and will vary wildly by product... but a lot of their customer base truly believes that USA made stuff is better quality. Some of it actually is.

I saw a disposable alcohol swap with "crafted in pride in the U.S". I was like uh, since the costs are a lot higher in the U.S how about make something a lot more value-added instead of just making the same exact thing which can be done much more cheaply in China?

I dont think its that China cant make nice things. They make cheap things because that is how the company wants it. They want it cheap and to break down within 5 years so youll have to buy another one. Pretty much every item is made to be disposable today. If you have a TV that lasts 30 years there is not as much profit to be made for the company vs. it breaking down in 5 years. Its a sad state of affairs and i would never run a company that way personally, but that is the way most of the world works today.

I've got to admit that I was expecting more of a variety for boots and other shoes. There are still some very good bootmakers in the US. Hell, New Balance has sneakers and things made in the USA and they don't have a single one.

"Every stitch or screw or raw material has to be from here, he said."

New Balance does the final assembly of around 25% of their shoes in the US, but even some of those have their soles made overseas. Problem with things like shoes is that there isn't a whole lot of raw rubber to be sourced domestically.

It's not racist. The store's idea just feeds off of the increasing xenophobia that exists in this country.

it's be racist if they were yelling slurs at you and kicked you out of the store while telling you to swim your ass back to vietnam.

otherwise racism not found.

Aluminum is lighter than steel. I use a coal shovel for snow cause that's what I have, but aluminum would be better. You also use aluminum as a grain scoop so it doesn't spark. Silo fires are a real concern, and aluminum, or wood helps prevent them.

Buy all of your stuff from China/India/Mexico/insert low wage country and get it cheaper. The US manufacturer closes down and those people go on unemployment. They can't find a decent job so they end up on welfare (and we cry like babies over that although somewhat justifiably based on welfare trends)

Either:

A. You pay more taxes to support them.
B. We borrow more money to support them (more like this lately).
C. We don't do shit and they rob us blind or kill us / be killed in the process.

You still lose.

But we don't need those jobs...people can all go to college and be the next Apple iChamacallit designer. :hmm:
