It seems like an asinine question at first. Iron Man, by his very name, utilizes ferrous metal!

But this is a bright group of knowledgeable folks; Is there any reasonable way that an equally prepared Magneto could ever lose to Iron Man?

Completely depends on how much metal is nearby to Magneto. He could surround Iron Man and imprison him, until he died of dehydration. Otherwise, Iron Man would win because he can fly faster (as far as I know), has weapons, and also sorts of AI assistance.

Just because he is called iron man does not mean his suit is largely iron based. I am thinking exotic light weight high strength alloys. That being said a strong enough magnetic field can interact with a variety of materials. Have you seen the levitating frog video?

"The goddamn Batman" is the usual answer in these kinds of threads.

Batman would have arranged several months in advance to have Magneto ingest one-half of a binary poison. On the day of the battle, Magneto's water bottle would be spiked with the second half.

Did any of you guys actually watch the first Iron Man movie? They clearly state in the movie that 'technically, its not Iron. Its a gold-titanium allow . . .'

Wikipedia says pure gold is not magnetic and titanium is only paramagnetic. The bulk of Tony's classic armor would be only slightly effected by Magneto at all, though there's likely circuit pathways Magneto could futz with. If he was precise enough.

Lets not forget that Tony Stark is a genius, if he were going into a fight with the Master of Magnetism, I'd expect he'd take precautions. Carbon fiber armor, etc.

Bleeding Edge Armor

The suit's repulsors, which are located around the knuckles, chest, back and legs of the armor, as well as in the traditional palms, now function also as cameras, or "eyeballs", which afford Stark a 360-degree panoramic view around himself.[22] Temporarily replacing the suit's primary composite - iron/platinum - with carbon nanotubes rendered it unaffectable by Magneto's powers when he and Iron Man engaged in combat over Utopia.[28]

forget the armor; attack the arc reactor before the writers update it to a non-magnetic material.

If Magneto can generate small multiple 100 Tesla magnetic fields in IM's body, he could rend his flesh apart. He could effectively cause Stark to have seizures by disrupting the electrical activity of his brain.

How come we don't just shoot Magneto in the face with a lead bullet? A lot of these heroes would just be ended quickly and quietly by a marksman with a rifle. :/

Actually hasn't Tony Stark got a chunk of ferrous shrapnel in his heart? Magneto could presumably use that to mince him up good and proper.

this is asinine. no one can beat magneto at his prime.

Yeah, depends on the writer. There was one time he could manipulate the heme in blood, and use that for mind control.

Then another time he went semi-good and couldn't do anything, he was less powerful than Polaris.

And despite the immediate connotation of his name, Magneto doesn't just control magnetic metals. He is most practiced in that, but he actually has control over the entire electromagnetic spectrum.

Equally prepared Magneto should stomp Iron Man 8 times out of 10.

In the first movie Tony says it's a gold titanium alloy... Not ferrous. Stupid question that is easily broken if you know shit about fuck
