Making an Excuse to Upgrade 7800GTX

I generally prefer Nvidia video cards but I'm going to leave it up to you guys, I told my wife I'd build her a gaming computer for Christmas and I'm going to honor that promise. I'm also going to use it as an excuse to upgrade MY video card (eVGA 7800GTX) so I was wondering what I should get to replace it?

My case is kind of cramped as I've got a SI-120 and a panaflo 80mm fan for CPU cooling and the Lian Li case is just cramped in general (well, it feels cramped with the 7800 in it anyway) and on the other side of the video card is a Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card, so all in all the case has very little space when everythings all put together and not really the greatest air flow, I generally leave the side panel off for this reason.

So what do you guys think, 7950 or something else?

NO, wait for the G81. PERIOD

OP, the 8800GTX is going to a fairly large card(9 in./dual slot cooler) if space is an issue, also should be available in Nov.

ATi's high end offering are always better, with exceptions offcourse. The sad thing is that we realize their value after months or sometime even a year after their release.

Take the 8500, 9700Pro/9500s, 1800XL, 1800XT, 1900XT and 1950XTX in the future.

Wait for the next gen cards, Nv will supposedly be launching theirs in November. Even if you dont end up getting a DX10 card, at least it will cause the prices of current cards to fall.

Please stop posting. You dont have a clue about hardware.

The 7950GX2 is nvidias highest end card right now, and it owns anything ati makes or has made so far. And considering the X1950 came out after... thats just sad. Kind of like the 7800 series and the X1800. Ati always has the advantage of releasing their cards a bit after nvidia, and they still cant outperform them. sad...

Well the only problem I have with waiting on an 8800 is that I've just made some big financial commitments (1200$ a month condo, bought a new Mitsubishi Lancer and getting Lasik Eye Surgery) and I was looking to spend in the 3-400$ range but http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130061 looks like a decent card with a decent price, what do you guys think?

It's either that or I hold off and save up some money and wait for the 8800 to go down in price.

As was stated before, wait till the new gen cards come out cause then current cards will drop in price so even if you want that card it will probably cost less after the 8800 is released
