Making SP2 Win2k CD

I am trying to make an SP2 Win2k CD. I have figured out how to extract the i386 in the SP to the original i386. Is there a way to get the post SP2 security roll up and other updates built in also? I build all of the machines for the company and anything that would save me time on installs would be great.

You want to slipstream sp2 into Windows 2000. It's simple.

Secure a copy of the i386 folder. Share it on the network.

Secure a copy of the SP2 executable. It can be on CD or just downloaded from Microsoft.

Now go to the run line, or command prompt and enter

[Path to SP2 Update folder]\Update.exe -s:[install share]

So If the I386 is shared in C:\ as I386, and the slipstream executable is on the same computer in c:\slip
It would look like

C:\slip\update.exe -s:c:\i386

The only space in that command is between the e and the -.

You cant do this with hotfixes or security rollups.

I did the slipstream with no problem. What I am looking for is a way to string the hotfixes on the CD as well. There is a part of mmcwiz's Technet link that sounds promising.

I was wondering, if you were building all the machines for the company, would they all consist of the same components? If so, could you just create an image of one setup, and restore it to the rest (configuring the settings that needs to be changed, of course).

Other than that, I used that article from Bink's site to slipstream SP2 into Windows 2000, but not integrate the hotfixes. That sounds kind of complicated, but if there was an article that steps you thru it, that'd be cool too.

Other than the basic workstations, the only thing most of our boxes have in common is Windows 2k. We are a small ASP/ISP. When someone needs a new machine I custom build it for them and their immediate need. I will probably go through the article on the hotfixes today to see if I can figure it out. I need more time and experience with software. I have always been more of a hardware junkie.

I have another option for you that IMHO is better that applying hotfixes as part of the base install. It does, however, require that you have active directory. What I do on my network is create the base images using a network install slipstreamed with SP2 and then apply hotfixes using group policy in conjunction with MS's Qchain utility. If this sounds like something you'd like to do let me know and I'll go into more detail.

My boss actually brought me a print out of the Q article explaining the QChain util.

My problem is (boy do I hate admitting this!) I don't know how to do a network install.
