A father-of-two was killed in a horrifying accident when a giant inflatable ball in which he and another man were rolling down a mountain plunged off a cliff at a ski-resort in southern Russia.

Denis Burakov, 27, married with two young daughters, broke his neck and spine in the zorbing accident, say reports.

His companion Vladimir Shcherbov, 33, was hospitalised with concussion and multiple lacerations to the head and body, but miraculously was later released.

Those balls are pretty damn sturdy and made to absorb immense amount of shock (which is the whole purpose of it).

If he was alone in the ball, I bet he wouldn't have gotten a single scratch.

I would say the balls have proven themselves as pretty safe (lol out of context line lol) if the only death has been from an idiot that rolled down a hill towards a cliff. Obviously a ride you're not in control of needs to be in controlled environment.

People have no imaginations. Looking at the clip yesterday it was obvious from the first second that there was a good chance that ball was headed off to the left. The "track" they built for it sloped to the left, following the hill that sloped to the left, and all they had to retain a six- or eight-foot ball was maybe a foot of snow. Beyond that foot of snow was a long slope, a lot of rock, and oblivion. And those guys were still game. Sad.

Wow setting the zorb loose right near a cliff.. thats a great idea! At least put up some strong fencing. A gust of wind could appear at any minute and push the zorb off.
