If you have these great political connections then why do you always mention running to Canada in almost every post you make about mandatory military service or the draft?

because it easier to to canada then to find away even with great political connections to get out of draft.Probeably the only people will get out of draft will be congrassman/senators sons and president if he has any. The best i would most likey be abel to do is get assigned to national guard which mostlikely will go t active duty outside the country anyway.That is the reason i would probeably go to canada.It would be easier to comeback and not get charged with treason then call every favor that i got so that i don't get drafted.

Dude You are misinformed. My nephew makes over 60K at 22 with the skills he learned while being paid by the US NAVY.

Please stop this nonsense. If you don't wanna fight or serve I have no problem with that but don't begrudge those who do and make wild assumptions.

technically their is.If you get your number get picked and u are order to go to draft u are legally delay the draft till u finish your current semster.So if u get called right at the begining of the semster u can delay it till u are done.

Right, which differs from Vietnam in that you can't keep getting a deferment as long as you're in college, which is how many people escaped the draft in Vietnam. Under today's rules, once your semester is up, its off to basic with you! As it should be.

There is also deferment for financial hardship on those dependent upon you. That means, no other supporting spouse or guardian for your children, including their grandparents. This obviously favors poorer people over the rich.

As for those wanting to skip to Canada, it is your obligation to update your address every time you move. So if you go to Canada, and the Selective Service board can't find you when your number is up, you might return to find that you have been deemed in violation of your Selective Service requirements. What sanctions might be taken against you, I don't know.

He was in the seabee construction battalion and learned to drive all sorts of big heavy equipment including cranes. He now works for granite construction doing the same. 5 years and he made good money while in plus all the other fringes like 0 down on a house no PMI (which he has) and free education (which he's getting a CE degree). BTW- guys make excellent monies while in I think the re-enlistment bonuses can be upwards of 30K and salaries are competitive. I know you thnk everyone makes 100K a year with a college degree

I have always thought that quality of life was more important than quantity. You seem to have no middle ground as far is the military is concerned. How are you to know that another world wide war would lead to destruction? Have you thought that rattling our sabers or military action to remove a growing threat would prevent another world war?

It will depend on language and interpretation of the law.

For example, in some of the asian countries where there is a mandatory military service....you have a choice to serve between ages of 18 - 22, and you have to serve minimum of two years.

And yes, if you don't serve within those guidelines then it is a crime.

Same here in Sweden, if you refuse you go to jail...

The US has the most powerful military in the world. Mandatory conscription is absolutely superfluous. There is simply no need for it, especially considering that the country's enemies are a couple of weak states thousands of miles away.

Here in Israel, however, the situation is quite different. Israel's very existence has hung in the balance on several occasions in the short time since its founding, which can't be said for the states. Our enemies are not eight miles from my house. That is why I plan on signing on for 6-9 years of service in addition to the mandatory 3 (20 months for girls) and join the most highly skilled air force in the world.

We don't have a fat problem here, many people whip into shape a year or two before their mandatory service starts at age 18.

I'm not sure we could enact mandatory service in the US. We have alot of whimps in our country. If half of them would live in your country for a month or two maybe they would see how lucky we are and would want to serve as well. Freedom for all people is worth fighting for.

I served in military, and I have two homes and now making over 80K a year, so for you to assume that all military people need to accept warefare is ridiculous.

Yes, military people don't become rich but money is not a sole motivation behind staying in military, but then you wouldn't know about that would you.

Your generalization of "Military Family" having to use food stamp is wrong.

However, E-1 to E-4 with wife and two to three kids (depending on rank) can be qualified for Food stamps and WIC program.
This is one of the reason why military do not want to see 18 year old kids coming into military with wife and three kids.

However, if you are single, no you do not meet food stamp criteria.
Even some civiilans can qualify for food stamps with extended family.

While I think there are lots of people who would benefit from boot camp, over all I think it's a terrible idea. The military should remain "all volunteer". Forcing people into the military who do not want to be there, causes nothing but problems for the military and the people who DO want to be there.

Since when do many young people have the sense to plan their families based on the level of care they can afford to provide?
At least the .mil safety net makes it an excellent place for youngsters if they make babies early. My biggest problem with young troops is getting them to fully explore the many benefits available.

I see the AF has the same "leadership challenges" as the Navy. Thankfully targeted pay raises and income supplement programs have eliminated the need for our troops to be on food stamps.

I don't have the same problem as you getting my guys to use the benefits available to them. I simply grab them by the scruff of the neck and make them do it. As to your second problem, I feel your pain. Nothing more frustrating than having a guy, who's driving a new Maxima and wearing 8 lbs of gold around his neck, tell you he doesn't have money for baby food or diapers a week before payday.
