Mandrake 9 and IRC

how can i install a IRC type Program that can do all of the IRC things I.e. xdcc send and so on on Linux (mandrak 9)

Try XChat.
Im not a Mandrake user, but they should have RPM's available, considdering it's probably by far the most common *NIX client.

X-chat is probably even installed by default.

thnx 4 the info! but it just has some gay thing installed.....i got Xchat n i did all of what it sed wiv all the configure n that along wiv the extract n root n it setup n that but i can find out where it went IE where the .exe is :S :S

so i cant run it! thnx 4 the help so far....i am a Linux N00B BTW

just start up a terminal and type xchat. Should start right up.

ill keep tryin but it starting 2 piss me off can anyone give me a link to a site that gives you the PROGRAM and wiv a Tutorial that tells you how to do it unless i can hav a link and one of you Linux Gods can write out EXACTLY what to do

If English is not your first language and you really are struggling, I apologize. But your profile says you are from the UK, so could you try and clean up the posts a bit? Its tough to read them.

You need to tell us what you tried and what you did not. Have you tried which xchat? Have you tried locate xchat? Did they turn up anything?

sorry about the ENGLISH thing i get used to typing in "internet lanuage" with all the silly little things like "2" and "wiv" i apolagise again! right i tried all the configure and make and make install and on the make one there was loads of errors in it! i have also downloaded an msn program which i am trying to get to work with no success! why isnt Linux like windows when you just click on setup and it does everything for you? that side of linux is very very annoying (coming from someone who has used Windows all of life!)

If you don't have xchat installed already, you can use urpmi to install it from the install cds. Go to a terminal, type "su" (without quotes), and enter your root password. At the prompt you get, which should have a # as opposed to a $, type "urpmi xchat" and follow the instructions it gives you. From then on you can simply go to either the menu, under Networking->IRC or go to a terminal and type "xchat".

Thank you. I guess this makes me an old fart or something, but I have never typed like that...

You are just doing things wrong. Look into RPMs and it will be more like that. rpmfind.net if the urpm thing doesnt work.
