We'll have to accept the fact that from now on we can only watch what Kim Jong Un allows us to watch, and do whatever hackers demand us to do. This is the new world order, we'll be ruled by a group of teenagers living in their parents' basement armed with a computer and a hacker's manual.

Just came over the AP wire that FBI has connected the Sony hack to NK

Shit just got real

Sony execs "goons" literally left logins in a file called "password". These are people that make more than your yearly salary in one day of work.

Sorry, but I'm just not buying the fact that good hackers could actually live long enough in North Korea to ever learn how to hack in the first place. But if the "hack" actually was because the logins used the password "password", don't you think someone with an axe to grind would have already figured that out years and years ago? Isn't that like leaving your car keys in your ignition with the door unlocked, then complaining when someone steals the car?

They were in a file labeled passwords.

The passwords themselves weren't actually "password".

At least I HOPE not.

Hmm, well, I can tell you from a bit of experience that's exactly what some of them probably did.

Hmm, well, I can tell you from a bit of experience that's exactly what some of them probably did.

QFT, usernames are usually pretty easy. When I was in desktop support I would sometimes make bets I could figure their passwords out in 10 guesses or less.

First I looked around the cubicle or office for random words or numbers on the wall.

Then asked them names of those in the photos in that same place.

Usually one of the random things was their password, if not it was usually a name (if kids both names) and/or the dates after.

I didn't always guess in 10 or less, but a lot of times I did. When I would keep asking, eventually I'd figure out about 30-50% of them.

Also usually the top 10 passwords or so would work off the bat.

Now passwords are more strict (you can't use god for one, or 123, 1234, 12345) and they don't force you into a length.

Still there are many systems running under those limitations just hanging on the internet.

Remember when South Park covered this exact scenario eight years ago? Apparently you can indeed use vague threats of violence to get rid of anything you don't like. I'm starting to think Matt & Trey may be prophets.

Seems almost more of a marketing scam to me...

I wonder if Sony didn't pay him to do it, the movie will make more now than it probably ever would have originally ......

Some theaters are going to show Team America instead. I find that kinda funny.

I'm just trying to figure out why people are seemingly SOOOOO concerned that a bunch of North Korean sleeper agents somehow left their own nation and infiltrated our own nation in order to shoot up/bomb American movie theaters.

Seriously? Based on everything we know about those people they would lose their fucking minds binging on popcorn and McDonald's.

Can't do anything as long as somebody else might get offended or has a non-zero chance of injury and death.

Out of all the countries who have tried to hurt us since 9/11, and North Korea is the first to actually cause something "major".

Wow...

What?

I implied it was a first time for North Korea to be first at anything, not that it was a MAJOR first.

So... no WOW.

This may have already been covered in the thread but way to go N Korea, you probably have enabled Sony to make potentially billions of dollars from the movie when Sony releases it online to Netflix, Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, etc from all the publicity you generated.

"North Korea"

I have a hard time believing the country that only has enough electricity to power one city could be behind a massive hack like this.

I think it's more likely they're just taking credit for someone else's work.

If they ARE behind it, I think this cements North Korea as the most pathetic nation in human history. I mean come on, you're pouring valuable resources into hacking a company to get a movie banned? How pathetic can you get?

Code doesn't require an entire country worth of infrastructure behind it.

A teenager with a laptop from 2002 could do more damage than this hack. Coding/hacking resources are available everywhere.
