Looks like my vote of 2nd half of 2025 will miss by a few weeks. Is it official when we see troops in the ground?
No, it will depend on how quickly this current episode lasts and if it spreads to other cities.

My guess is the sudden show of force quells any further resistance and ICE/DHS just try to wrap it up quickly so it doesn't drag out in the news

Ah, the marching orders to downplay our new Empire.

MAGA lemmings: No big deal.
MAGA Leaders:
Stephen Miller, an immigration hardliner and the White House deputy chief of staff, described the day's protests as a "violent insurrection."
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned that the Pentagon was prepared to mobilize active-duty troops “if violence continues” in Los Angeles, saying the Marines at nearby Camp Pendleton were “on high alert.”

Hmmmm, Trump has just nationalized the California National Guard and sending 2,000 troops into Los Angles.

This is going to get ugly, and this will spread...
Holy shit. If NG is anything like here its something people join to sort of get involved on the local level where you live... The idea that the Orange Donkey can just assume command and deploy you vs your neighbors is a nightmare. Get the f out of NG for now at least.

All it will take to escalate is some over-excitable, nervous national guard unit to get itchy trigger-fingers. Might-or-might-not actually happen, but that would probably be the first step. It's what happened in Northern Ireland, and the US already had Kent State.

With each incremental addition in aggression from the Feds, probability increases.

Let's see how quickly they can call up troops to help Stephen Miller arrest LA's taco ladies and guys manning car washes. You can't just snap your fingers and have troops appear and if those troops think the mission is bullshit well good luck. Besides protest relentless ridicule of these incompetent soft handed crying Himmler types is also required.

I doubt it. I think it blows over pretty quickly, ICE will probably just finish their round ups and leave.

A show of force this quickly will have a large deterrence effect.

Hasn't stopped military deployment to the border, immigration enforcement, or military deportation flights so stop with this myth that the military is going to somehow disobey direct orders or that they don't agree with the agenda. Fantasy thinking.

This was the case for every NG joiner I knew, which wasn't a small number. They generally cared for their community and wanted to serve the military and their community simultaneously.

The military deployment to the border is basically a disaster. Spending huge amounts of money to do nothing and severely damaging morale. Interviews with the soldiers involved reveal attitudes between boredom and contempt for the mission. It's also been beset by a large number of accidents and suicides. Domestic military deployment is bad and undesirable for the troops as much as it is the civil population.

Personally, I think this is a warmup for next week. There's a lot of protests planned leading up to his masturbatorial parade. I suspect there will be a lot more NG 'deputized'.

It's also fucking stupid, our military force is expeditionary. It's not designed to be used on US soil.

Nobody signed up to be this guy's goon squad to help him work out the trauma of having to go to high school with some hispanic people.

One thing I will say, a universality of every NG member I knew: they're fired up and ready to rock if it's something they are interested and motivated in doing, but if they don't wish to do something, they are absolutely immovable rocks. Like the caricature of an 80s DMV worker.

Pretty much. I know some people are going to be "The army/ng won't disobey direct orders from the president (or whoever is actually running the country in this case)". But the probability is that if they think it's bullshit and don't want to do it that they carry out their orders exceedingly poorly and slowly so as to moot them.

A remarkable document when the LAPD is like "Nah, everything is chill." as the administration's nuts scream about riots and looting that don't exist.

Shorter: We are not getting paid to participate in this foolishness and are not interested thank you.

Me thinks we're going to get a whole new swarm of court cases regarding supremacy and control of the NG. It doesn't look like California is going to take this one sitting down based on response from local authorities and the governor.

Good on CA.

You're not getting what I'm saying.

Has any of that been slowed down due to military (even at the individual level) expressing doubt or concern about the mission they are tasked with? No. Also, ICE's swelling numbers should tell you there are plenty willing to enforce the President's wishes.

Source on the "large number of accidents and suicides?" Genuinely asking.

Also, to echo FDC and Welshbloke, will people please stop calling it "Marshall law"? The term is even spelled correctly in the thread title, for God's sake!

Again, I'm not making any predictions, it's impossible to know. Depends on the actions and attitudes of thousands of individuals (on 'both sides') in a multitude of interactions. But your comment here is exactly what was believed when the troops were sent into Northern Ireland. They were actually welcomed at first, by Catholics who thought they'd be their protectors. Then Bloody Sunday happened.

There is a difference between lawful-dumb and unlawful-dumb. If orders are issued for the latter (by Prime Minister Miller I assume) a large percentage of the military is likely to refuse such orders.

The issues with deploying NG to the border have been ongoing for some time and well documented. Here is one example.

That's what the advertisements for it are and sounds appealing. But I remember a bunch of them getting deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Army's 250th birthday is kind of a big deal to them. The celebration has been in planning for several years. I look forward to watching it.
