Sure, he can be the online troll counterpart, as long as they don't push him as a Presidential candidate. He's barely liked even in his own state.

But they elected him.

Anyway, I still can't work out what the hell your agenda is. If you want to slag off the Democrats for being useless, I can kind of understand that, to a degree - I feel very much the same way about the Labour Party (my parents were expelled from it for being too left wing before I was even born, and it's moved further-and-further to the right since then).

But your relentless pessimism and occasional outbreaks of what seem like actual agreement with the Trumpist Right, baffles me.

Threatening peaceful protestors with violence, not only makes them less likely to show up (as the guy says), it also increases the chances that the folk who _do_ show up will be disproportionately the non-peaceful ones. It's as likely to encourage those looking for a scrap as it is to dissuade the non-violent. Both effects, possibly constituting a 'win' for Trump.

Its exactly the regime wants. Any reason to unleash suffering on the out groups

I'm not sure it works that way and come the 14th I think we'll see again that it does not.

I also think we need to distinguish between Trump largely getting to do what he wants and what constitutes a political "win" from implementing those policies. A lot of the stuff he likes doing people hate and it's showing up in the polling. Trump already produced one historic midterm loss for the GOP and certainly could do so again.

Practically speaking Trump is 78 and looks like a big pile of unhealthy shit. There is no MAGA heir apparent because the thing literally is him. Very few cults survive the death of the founder. He's not going to live forever.

I believe the really bad shit is being coordinated by Project 2025 people and they are letting trump do the stupid stuff like getting a beater jet from Qatar, redecorating the WH ballroom, pave the rose garden, rant on unTruth Social, etc. A puppet in other words. If something happens to trump then they will make Vance the lead puppet and he will do everything P2025 wants.

I'm not convinced we won't see a reverse 2022 in 2026. Trump's approval rating is stabilizing/improving and he is still above water on immigration. The recent poll about deploying military to LA only got 47% disapproval (34 approved, 19 unsure). Yes, more people disapproved but hardly the widespread condemnation you would think.

Ultimately will boil down to the economy, perhaps. And if he actually pulls back on tariffs and the economy returns to "normal," that might be more than enough for the GOP to hold steady or even make gains. In this timeline, anything is possible.

A lot of people nationally aren't really paying attention to the LA situation yet. If it expands to other cities they will. Also 34% approval of a policy is...not good.

Trump's polling on immigration goes kinda like this:

General immigration approval. 55%
Approval of calling out the NG to protect ICE. 38%
Approval of calling out the Marines to protect ICE. 34%
Deporting people without due process. 27%
Deporting people who have American Citizen kids. 25%

There is a decent gap between what people think/hoped Trump is doing and what is actually happening. A gap that is probably going to shrink as Miller gets to act out his wildest (very unpopular) fantasies. You can already sort of see this developing as people start to realize they aren't getting what they thought.

Trump promised the first line but because millions of criminal illegals don't actually exist and the ones that do are hard to find they are going after all the other categories, per Miller's demand of DHS. Deporting people married to a US citizen who have not committed any crimes is probably less popular than herpes but they are doing it anyway.

This is a good point - the more people learn about what Trump is doing the less they like it.

It still kind of amazes me how quickly Trump was able to fuck everything up. Think back to last summer: the economy was good, wages were rising, inflation was falling, crime was going down, and cities were peaceful. Now we have massive economic instability not just within the US but globally, mass arrests by masked secret police, protests everywhere, etc. Like... for what?

The for what is as pretexts to seize more power. I put this more on folks like miller than Trump.
