If you had ever worked in the petrochemical business you would have jumped to industrial accident.

Fire and smoke leading to big boom is generally an accident. Big boom only is likely a terrorist attack.

(Not definitive of course, just likely)
Also this was a bigger boom than any terrorist attack I'm aware of.

I immediately thought of videos I had previously seen of accidental fertilizer explosions and one video of a rocket fuel factory explosion.

Yeah, I don’t get why some people are having trouble understanding this. Lax inspections, lax regulation and a ship that was deemed unsafe holding tons of explosive fertilizer for years. How could that be the problem?

That's inaccurate. The ammonium nitrate was moved from the ship to the warehouse in 2014.

Really don’t know. Coincidence that someone worked on the door earlier that day? But yeah what ignited the fireworks also

They're arresting people, as they should be. We might see some serious political repercussions from this, see how Macron was treated? I had Lebanese friends growing up as a kid, they throw great parties. I hope America can stand by them as the French and Israelis are right now. City Hall in Tel Aviv:

Do they, though? The civil war ended thirty friggin years ago. It's not like with plutonium, which you can buy in every corner drugstore since 1985; this stuff is dangerous!

People in that region have long memories. Home of Hezbollah

Hell, first thing I thought of was MOSSAD wiped out a Hezbollah arms cache. Looks like just plain bureaucratic incompetence. We will see.

First thought was Hezbollah myself. As in someone dropped something volatile at a hidden cache, setting off the whole show. It'd have to be a pretty bad situation for the country if Mossad found itself initiating that kind of explosion in a populated port/city area. Not really the way they operate. Though there are probably some Israeli hardliners who would be ok with that kind of destruction, long as it happens down range.

So far this seems to be a story of tragic incompetence, yup.

Horse shit, from the earliest videos it was pretty obvious there was a fire already in progress and then something else exploded. Also the scale of the explosion is not something within the scope of the typical terrorist organization. Basically a few seconds of thinking and “it’s an attack” goes out the window as a likely cause.

Speaking of which.

You conveniently ignored the actual important part where Trump publicly announced his dumbfuck brain oozing, as his role of president of the United States.

This isn't simply "what most people would assume first off." It's the President of the Fucking United States making public speculation about an accident, without any fucking assessment, that could actually lead to war.

Stop downplaying this. Recognize the significance of the difference here, and what was actually said. You aren't responding to what the poster actually said.

And yes, you are defending Trump explicitly by downplaying the significance of his role, and the things he says in his role. It's obvious. This is how adults talk in the real world.

Well others have said the same thing in this very thread. Go give them some of your Adult Speaking Lessons.

You are a joke.

It's one thing for a shlub at home to start jumping to conclusions, I too first thought "terrorist attack."

It would have been an irresponsible thing for me, a random person, to go shouting in Wal-mart that it was a terrorist attack.

Up a few notches from there is the fucking President of the United States just spitballing, in public, that he thinks it was a terrorist attack. The standard response is "we are investigating, when we have more information we will inform the public." Trump, as usual, is substandard. We collectively voted for a person utterly unable to handle crisis, and as the covid "response" has shown, we lost the bet.
The man is highly insane at this point. If reelected, the USA has voted to put a madman in charge. A known madman.

Actually I didn't. Dubbed Little Boy, huh? Damn allied soldiers? Who? Einstein, not. Uh, sorry @MomentsofSanity.
The first atomic bomb detonated was known as “The Gadget”

The Hiroshima bomb was called Little Boy because it was physically smaller than it’s sibling “Fat Man” which was dropped on Nagasaki

Little Boy was a gun type bomb where a barrel of enriched Uranium was slammed into a slug of Uranium causing an uncontrolled fission reaction.

Fat Man and the gadget were implosion style weapons where specially shaped explosive charges compressed a core of plutonium until a fission reaction occurred.

I had no idea... not very common info. I mean, I was a physics student at the U freshman and sophomore years, at UC Berkeley, who managed Livermore National Laboratory where a lot of this stuff was developed. I never knew that the H and N bombs dropped on Japan in 1945 were utterly different weapons, one plutonium based, the other uranium. I'm just OMG.

I've known for years what the bombs were called due to the way they looked but then I'm kind of a freak for almost anything WWII. my dad flew in b17s and b29s and did weather recon, flying into hurricanes.

People have long memories all over the world, man. And, I seriously doubt anyone would store explosives for over three decades only to pull them out now. Besides, after 30 years, would you even want to touch those explosives? How stable are they going to be after potentially being stored in a hot, humid climate for years and years...?

so, you didn't even read. That's 2 times flatly ignoring the relevant issue.

Fuck man, it's no mystery that if President Darkie had said the same exact thing right after the explosion, based on no intelligence whatsoever, you would trip over yourself to get past your crusty Trump Waifu pillows because you couldn't get to your keyboard fast enough to post on here about the dangerous incompetence of what Darkie said. Everyone fucking knows it, and so do you.
