A64 3000 venice
Chaintech Zenith Value Edition vnf4 Ultra
Leadtek 6600GT 128
2x 256mb 2100 DDR (kingston valueram)

The proc went from 1.8 ghz to 2.8 without voltage increase on stock cooling! With increased voltage and water cooling, it went to 3.2ghz!!! That is just awesome! AMD forever!!!

The Video card was more modest, getting 580/1160 core/memory clocks.

Was going to post my PCMark 04, Aquamark 3, and 3dmark 01, 03, 05 scores, but decided to make it a guessing game. How much of each do you think I got?

There is new build of prime95 out and its good for 64bit but 24hours is bit long not to use pc. give us a good overnight run like 10-12 hours, if it dont fail then it wont fail dong any other stuff you through at it.

Prob the most stainful thing you can do outside prime is encode movies esp to svcd it rapes cpu lol.

I'm not sure how useful P95 is anyway. I was able to run its blend test for 12 hours at 2.3ghz without any problems but several CPU intensive games were crashing within minutes at that speed. Had to cut it down to 2.2ghz for full stability. (I have an engineering sample winchester that is a pathetic overclocker, but it was free)

Doh !

I forgot about 64bit ... anyway,,, your supposed to keep using your computer during P95.
I usually run 3dM01 SE on continuos loop while running P95.
But, otherwise, just keep using you computer like normal while running p95.

P.S. thx for update on new version.

Same issues with my 3000+ but its a Venice chip. It will run prime no prob at 2.2 but crashes within an hour of BF2 gaming. Had to drop to 2.0 to be stable, but I still get hella beeps at startup all of a sudden.

Who in their right mind uses the pc while its priming, you wanna play farcry at same time ?

CP5670, Yes you could pass prime95 then fail a game, thats 3D mode, so you run 3dmarks to stress that part of cpu and gpu.

3Dmark 05 was also running fine actually, although I looped that for about 5 hours only (ran out of patience at that point, heh). Anyway, it was even crashing in old non-accelerated games like Descent 2 at the 2.3ghz speed. I guess there is no substitute for actual programs when it comes to stress testing this stuff.

I had mine at 2.23 for a while but also got those failed boots every now and then, so I lowered it a bit more. This is a 3200, so the overclock is now a measly 200mhz, but for the price I paid I'm not really complaining.

I kind of expected someone to say shens. I built this computer for a regular customer, and he has it now. Nevertheless, I will get some screens and stuff from him then update, but I assure you that I got this high!

About prime 95: The documentation that comes with prime 95 says you should run it for 2 weeks before deeming a compy stable. I've never had a computer pass that before, but runs stable for all my needs. I didn't prime said computer, but I did run these Demos to their conclusions with no sweat or instabilities:
Chaos Theory
Doom 3
Full version of PoP:Warrior Within

About the Ram: It's surreal, this ram. I and a couple other coworkers were stunned.

Again, I am NOT kidding about this. It may take a week or so to get legit screens, so bear with me...

Oftentimes this instability in games is due to RAM, not the CPU. Many games such as World of Warcraft and other games which are constantly caching files in RAM are extremely RAM intensive (which P95 is not; P95 is an exclusive CPU stress test).

Even Warcraft 3 used to crash on me with good RAM, while I could overclock the CPU and be Windows (and Prime95) stable on my P4 2.8C @ 3.35 GHz. Downclocking the RAM, increasing voltage, and increasing timings were the solution to stable running at the overclocked speeds.

Use memtest86+ to test memory ...

I was just wondering how 'stable' that OC was ...

Didn't give it to him o/c'ed, if that's what you mean. I've built his last 3 computers, starting with a pentium 2 266mgz platform. Both ram and video cards are faster than that now

I was running the RAM on a divider though to rule it out of the equation, so it was actually at 180 odd mhz while the crashes were occurring. I tried pushing up the voltage up quite a bit but that didn't help much either. I think Prime95 and other such programs give some indication of stability but for some reason don't replicate the stresses from actual games that well.

Prime95 has a very low thread priority, running another task will most likely drop its CPU usage from 100% to about 4-5%. I wouldn't recommend doing that.

when you run prime95 properly, it pretty much renders your computer unusable. set the priority to 10, hell 5 even, and you'll see.

I'm getting the max stock cooling #'s, I'm not putting the water cooling back on again. I know this is going to kill my credebility to the naysayers, but: the guy's on vacation so I can't get to his computer for the pics yet. Stand by and I'll update as soon as I possibly can...
