I disagree with you on this one. The Detonator drivers for Linux provide 3D performance that is on par with Windows performance. They are also easy to install and updated frequently. NVidia definately provides excellent Linux support; just because their drivers aren't open sourced doesn't mean that they don't provide any support.

I will take your word on Matrox Linux support. I have to say that I wouldn't mind excellent 2D and 3D quality in Linux, so the Matrox card is appealing. Right now NVidia is top dog in Linux for 3D gaming IMO.

Matrox is the only company that has provided good support for Linux and other UNIX-like OSes. Ill continue to purchase their cards.

Umm, yes I did own a G400. And at 1024x768 32bbp with Trilinear filtering, maximum texture detail = a slideshow on G400.

So why not drop the details a bit?

Agreed.

I never said I had max texture and Trilinear on. I just said it was playable. I don't remember my exact settings because I didn't like the game. I only played the demo a few times.

Also, UT is plenty fluid at 1024 using medium detail.

In Rogue Spear I run at 1280x1024. In Nascar 2000 I run at 1152x864. Both are beautiful. Been playing Dungeon Siege and it runs sweetly, I can't remember my settings, but they are at least 1024.

As for Parhelia's capabilities and performance, these leaks are just the very tip of the iceberg. You'll see tomorrow (or later today)

I find the support Matrox provides the Open Source and Free Software communities to be more important than blazing 3D performance. Its a religious thing

It helps that I dont game. If I did game I would not hesitate to purchase an nVidia product. Or an ATi product, since they are opening up to the community as wel..

Drivers? We are dealing with a COMPLETELY different card from ANYTHING Matrox has offerd before. Looked what happened with ATI, they had a good deal of trouble getting their card to perform as well as it should. To say ATI has a bad driver team is a little harsh and IMO not very true. I remember when I had a Rage Furry and I never once had trouble with it, and it was damn fast at the time. Their Rage Maxx cards with dual processors worked great as well. They don?t work under Win2K or XP due to the fact that they were discontinued so long ago though. I really think driver discussion should be left alone till we have some benchmarks and hard fact?s to work with.

This is completely off track, but I couldn't just let a comment like that go.
ATI said that they would NOT create drivers for win2k. Why? I don't know, ask them.
But the card was not discontinued so long ago that they don't need to provide drivers for their customers. The normal Rage 128 cards have Win2k and WinXP drivers.

i do hope that it will be able to drive the additional monitors at better than 1600x1200x65hz because that is all my g450 could do.. i was pretty darn disappointed when i found out i couldn't run at 1600x1200 without hurting my eyes and it made my dualhead useless...

Absolute rubbish. The G400 will be generating total slideshows in those games using those settings.
Of course, that's a matter of OPINION. This is the BFG that calls anything under 100FPS a "slideshow".
Lighten up, not everyone needs eyeball-busters.
