I need a new mattress. Using a many-years-old full innerspring with a memory foam topper currently.

Looking around memory foam seems to be the most recommended and most available type. I'm afraid of it being too hot though.

I do see some made with gel to help reduce the heat, but is that a gimmick? I have a memory foam pillow with some kind of gel on it and it doesn't seem to do much.

I'm confused about latex mattresses as I read they are similar to memory foam but they don't get as hot, but I also read they sag or develop valleys or whatever more easily. I also find it hard to find latex mattresses like on Amazon, seems to be very few.

I'm looking to spend $600 or less on the mattress. I might also need a new box spring as it's as old as the mattress and probably not in the best condition.

I want to go queen size and my frame will expand to fit a queen size mattress so I should be good there. The frame is about 5 years old.

Saw a few memory foams on amazon that get good reviews under $600 so thats most likely where I will buy from (plus amazon prime shipping!).

Was looking at costco today and they had some sealy innerspring/Memory foam hybrid with a aboxspring for $600 but i looked online for that model and it didnt gwt very good reviews. They had some others but queens were 800 for mattress only and that is too expensive.

Lucky you, this is all on sale RIGHT NOW. The best part about costco is FUCK customer reviews, if you don't like it bring it back.

I hear (cannot verify) that if you buy from Costco online a mattress and don't like it they will return and pick it up, vs buying from Costco B&M if you don't like it you gotta drive it back.

I bought a Sealy ultra-firm latex mattress from a department store several years ago and have never looked back. Mine has developed no valleys or sagging, it's as firm as it was the first day. But that could be a measure of the firmness and the fact that I'm a 195 lb guy, the softer varieties may not hold up as well under a heavier person. I also use a box-spring, if someone isn't using one than I could also see valleys being an issue.

I can attest to the fact that it doesn't get hot at all, even during the summer. I used to use those foam egg-carton pads on innersprings and would be sweating like hell by morning, no such issues with the latex.

However, a quality latex mattress will cost you a lot more than your budget. Mine is a twin and it was on sale for $700 including the box spring and frame. A queen set will likely run you around $1000 or more. I'd still recommend it, never slept better in my life but if the money isn't there it isn't there.

This is also one of those cases where I'd recommend buying from a physical store. This is something you're going to spend 1/3 of your life on, go lay on it for a good 30 minutes to see if it's what you want, and make sure wherever you buy it from has a decent return policy. It can take a week or so for your back to get used to a new mattress.

From my experience the gel is better than no gel but its still far too hot for me. No way I'd be remotely comfortable in the summer

They dont seem common but I ended up getting a latex mattress and we both love it.

Comfort is probably around the same as a good memory foam but I spent more to get the latex for the heat reasons. In terms of temperature I would say its the same as our old box spring mattress. Also it was much easier to get one with different firmness levels. Its a 3 layer mattress with my wife's side being firm medium soft and mine being firm medium medium. Makes it pretty easy if you want make small adjustments to the firmness level and you can usually exchange out layers if need be

It obviously depends on your budget but this is one area I don't mind spending a bit more given how long we'll spend sleeping on it. It can be tough to find them reasonably priced as many retail stores are stupidly expensive. I found what I wanted online and assembled it myself (pretty straightforward) for about 1/2 the price my local store had it for.

After 1 week we noticed we felt significantly more awake even if we got less sleep. Its honestly ruined us for other mattresses. I use to have shoulder pain when I slept on my side but no more. I also toss and turn much much less. The last time I was in CA for work I stayed at the same hotel I've stayed at dozens of times before but this time I was tired as shit - even after 9 hours of sleep. Came home and 6 hours of sleep on the new mattress left me more refreshed than 7-9 hours in the hotel. Never had that problem before

FWIW I got mine from here: http://www.sleepez.com/latex-mattresses.htm

Edit: There is minimal motion transfer which is really nice since our schedules are about 3 hours off of eachother. And fwiw we like sex better on the new mattress as well. Much more stable and predictable platform to work with and much less worry about the headboard banging against the wall

Just to chime in on this one, I still say innersprings are best for missionary. You can compress them with your arms and use the spring's rebound to get a little extra.. well... noise for less effort.

Casper sounds nice, combo of latex and memory foam. Price for a queen is 850. A bit over my initial budget but might be worth it. i get major back and neck pain, like i woke up today with my back hurting really bad. I have arthritis in my lower back and i swear this bed aggravates it.

i have a memory foam topper from costco on my W-hotel heavenly bed and it's really comfortable. the mattress is about 5 years old and it's pretty saggy in spots, but with the memory foam topper on top you can't really feel it. the foam is really firm.

we just got this mattress last week in queen for our guest room.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i haven't slept on it, only lied down on it. it's really comfortable too. it's not as firm as the foam topper that we have on our bed, but it's really comfortable. i can't say how it is for a nights sleep though simply because i haven't slept on it.

got out of bed this morning and could barely walk because my back was in so much pain.

instead of the Casper bed, maybe buy a cheaper memory foam, like the costco one linked here, and then buy a latex topper?

To get the full effect of the costco memory foam I then purchased 2 of them and laid them out in the guest room.

Give it about 5 minutes to decompress then you can lay on it.

So the costco memory foam is 3 inches thick thus giving me a total 6 inches while on the floor and right away to test it out laid some banket on top and laid down.

I did more than that I fell right to sleep.

One thing true is that it will readjust your spine back to normal.

Other things to help your back is to empty your wallet. If you are one of those men who have a fat wallet 3 inches thick or more.

i used to keep a wallet in my back pocket and it was pretty thick but last year i switched to a front pocket wallet and it's thin.

it was like $1500 or something cause they always have coupons, and it has a lifetime warranty as well so if i ever get not-lazy i will call them about it. but i hear mattress warranties are nearly impossible to get a new mattress with because of all the bs along with it.

When I reach into the deep memories of my ancestors...deep deep into the genetic code.... (requires training)... they shout back:

We are creatures of the earth and slept on rocks just fine ya pussy. STFU has never been more applicable.

Then my solid mattress becomes a cloud. And my Chi is found.

Think about it.

We got the Dux 515 around 8 years ago. I love this mattress but we paid like 9K. Worth it IMO.
