I need a 3d Studio MAX Mid-Priced Workstation. I was thinking:
AMD Athlon 1Ghz
256MB DDR RAM ( at least )
760 DDR mobo
IBM 75GXP 30gig x2 RAID 0
Plextor 12x10x32 IDE
GTS 64MB
Viewsonic PF815
Win 2000 Pro
This will be used for 3d modeling, and some animation, but also gaming. Or do you think that I should go dual P3s? I might even wait for dual Athlons if performance is good enough. I just need input before I buy a $2000 piece of junk.

IMHO if you wait for the 760 boards, you can go dual and reall make 3DStudio MAX really scream!

Would I really need all that power though? Which would be a more powerful renderer the cpu or the gts 64mb?

The GTS will only accelerate the realtime output to the screen, the final render is processed completely by the cpu.

Also if your a bit risky you could try to mod the Geforce2 into a Quadro2 and install ELSA's MaxExtreme drivers for even faster performance in Max. Other than that pretty nice system...

Oh BTW, about the "too much power" thing, you say that now...just wait a couple of months
