Routers are OS independent. Not sure which utilities you are talking about but you usually do all the configuring through a web browser. Also forget the RT-56U as it is Ralink chipset based. There is a post right here on the Networking forums comparing the Linksys e4200 and the Netgear WNDR3700. They both seem like fine routers.
