ok, so u've missed the point of hte thread...
the ATA133 controller is "needed" so that your computer can recognize the entirety of the drive...otherwise it'll only format the first 128GB, which is a limitation of most ATA100 and less IDE controllers (but not because they're ATA100 as rand points out, but rather, because they may or may not incorporate 48bit LBA addressing )
so, if u want, pick up the drive first, check to see if your partition manager recognizes the entire drive and it's formatted accordingly, and if not, pick up an ATA133 controller.
or simply, buy the maxtor retail box drive that comes w/ the controller.
the drive isn't as fast as the 120gb WD, but it's still quite fast - after all, it only spins at 5400, but the platter density is large (though still the same as the WD one, AFAI - 40GB)...get it if u need the capacity and fairly decent performance, but not the best IDE performance.
