I just received my Quantum Fireball LM 7200rpm 2mb cache - i am amazed with the speeds it can achieve. I get like 18000 with udma66 on my super7 fic 503a mobo. I used to get like 3700 with WD 6.5 drive.

I got the Quantum from buy.com for a total or 90.00 (with 30.00 rebate).

How did you get it for $90? It listes for 142 - 30 = 112.

If it lists for $142 on buy.com, just add a few things to your shopping cart to bring the total above $150, then use whatever $30 Buy.com coupon currently exists (found from other message boards/websites of course, nobody wants to take responsibility here). So what you pay right away is ~$120, then you have the $30 rebate from Quantum (if that's still valid).

I've got a Quantum Fireball LM...think its pretty fast.
If you haven't already been there, check out Storagereview. At one point a couple of months back, the Fireball was the fastest IDE drive out. It is faster than the GXP75 in several cases. Now if you are talking about Quantum as a company? Can't help you there.

I'm running a quantum atlas 10K drive, and I have nothing "bad" to say about quantum. For a large percentage of this past year, their drives were the fastest drives available in the world, so I don't think anyone has any right to say that since they don't have the name brand recognition that maxtor has that they are automatically not as good. If people only bought the "best" drives and not the "cheapest" drives, then none of you would have ever heard of maxtor. I also own a maxtor 60 and haven't had any problems with it. Its fast enough to play my mp3's which is what I bought it for, besides that, its not a very exciting drive.
