9700Pros are all 256bit, but where the hell did you find that card for 230$??? It's a lot cheaper than that, you can get a 9800Pro 256bit for 200$, you could even get the 9800Pro 256MB (XT) for like 226$ from newegg.com I guess.
That 9700 isn't softmoddable, it already has 8 pipes running, and as for overclocking, I haven't tried the card myself, so somebody else might help you out in this.

found it on newegg. but i am going to buy in a local shop for $235. new egg has it for 230.

you shouldn't pay more than 160 for a 9700 these days. for 230 you can get a 9800 and still have 30 dollars left over
