I want to change my founders Hunchback to a founders Atlas. I've decided I like the HBK-4P much better so I probably wouldn't use the 4G too much, unless they seriously fix autocannons.

Quick question to those in the beta already, are joysticks supported?

I'm itching for a reason to break out my Wingman again.

You are ment to be able to chance the selected mech in your forum profile somewhere. I am sure the forum has the needed information for you to do it though.

Probably best to read the actual game forum for information on hardware supported. I remember seeing the option for setting up a joystick in the options section, but as I do not use one, I have not bothered to look too closely or actual use it.

On the $60 package, I know right now you have to pick one mech and can't change it, but any indication you can swap them around later?

Pretty sure I remember reading that you can change it before open beta when everything becomes fixed. After that point though, their is no changing it to something else. If there was, why offer a founder's pack with all 4?

What I don't get is why the XL engine weights aren't correct. A 300 XL engine weighs 12 tons in the game but 9.5 tons in the original Battletech. XL engines are supposed to be half the weight of a standard engine.

I remember the XL being 1/2 the weight, but then it was also only 2 slots per side torso. But that was with clan tech. I can not remember the IS version of the XL engines outside needing 3 slots in each side torso. Maybe it is the IS version of the XL engine so the weights are right?

otherwise I can only guess it is game balancing that the developers have placed into the game.

I can not do any propper checking on this internet connection, but google gives this link that might have the missing details

Only difference between Clan and IS XL engines is that Clan takes 2 critical slots in each side torso while IS takes 3. That's why if you destroy an IS Mech's side torso that has an XL engine it's dead (3 engine hits).

So i had a VERY hard time deciding which mech to get with the $60 founders pack since you can only have one, like i sat there for well over a hour thinking about it, thinking about which mech was better in the tabletop games, thinking about which mech was better in the books i had read, and just couldnt do it.

So i got the $120 founders pack

I work till thursday morning but am looking forward to downloading this and trying it out on thursday.

had a nice hour and a half chunk to play last night. had 1 CTD on my second map of the night. nothing else after. Its borderline unplayable at times because of my hardware. I get circled to death fairly easily because it goes to about .5 FPS when shit starts happing close around me.

WTF is up with all the 80kph hunchbacks? had a couple games where there were 3-4 on my team.

that being said, an 80kph catapult is pretty fun, but i get in to trouble way too easily and cant get out becaue of the frame rate drop.

Finally used a Gauss last night, dropping my 2UAC5's on my K2. cored a fresh Cat C1 in i think 4 close in vollies. I dont understand why the gauss impacts instantly, but the PPC lumbers across the battlefield.

with all the extra founders MC, buying a couple Atlas Ks and selling them for cbills is a great way for instant cash.

But in the Battletech rules a 195 fusion engine weighs 8 tons plus 2 more for a gyro. An XL version weighs 4 tons plus 2 for the gyro.

In MWO, the same engine weighs 7 tons total (including the gyro if it's bundled in the weight) and the XL version weights 3 tons total.

There was a post a while ago explaining the discrepancies after that particular patch was put up, but I can't find it anymore because the forum's search function and stability are crap. I don't think it matters that much in terms of gameplay anyway.

------------------------------------------

I'm pretty convinced PPC's animation is borked - the "projectile" might be traveling slightly faster than the particle effect, I've scored several kills when the beam barely grazed my target (no impact), more apparent when you fire it together w/ gauss (both have the same speed of 1200)

They moved the gyro from the chassis to the engine, that's where the weight difference comes from.

I've been running around in a Jenner JR7-F with an XL300 and 4 medium lasers and 14 heat sinks, this lets me get about 140Kph with two-three blasts form the medium lasers without over heating. When I lose a leg I can still manage 69-70Kph which is still decent enough to outrun most heavy and assualt mechs (and some medium)

Just wanted to say I played a few games this morning before i went to bed and i really need to get some time into this game lol. So far loving the lighter faster mechs, although the awesome can take some serious abuse.

Playing around with an Awesome stacked with 4 SRM6 and a 2 heavy lasers. It's okay, not sure what to think of it yet. I think I still need two more tons of SRM ammo.

was watching an awesome like that, excpet with about 6 spls, if he got close enough sot he entire srm volley hit you, he was just about 1 shotting anything medium or less.

That was my perfered build before the last patch refresh (saving money to get it again).

Full armour, slightly slow, but when the enemy gets close thinking I am a "easy target"(?), espically lights, 24 srm's at very short range give a high hit rate and very tight clustering.

Even mediums that try going toe to toe fail after the 3rd salvo (fast enough to keep the distance between small).

Only have issues with mechs built for range on the hot map.

But I just love brawling / having such a suprise for those I fight.

note: only used 2 ton of ammo (so 8 shots). Had to make them count. The rest of the weight was heatsinks so the two LL can fire as fast as they can cycle.

Right now I have 4 mechs, all with XL engines

Jenner with 4 medium lasers is most fun, but i can get cored in one hit by an atlas.

Atlas with 4 medium lasers, machine gun, UAC5, and 2 LRM 10's seems pretty good, but lacks serious punch at any range. But still provides all around goodness.

Atlas with LRM 20, ER large laser, AMS, and a gauss rifle, with lots of heatsinks, good for reaching out to people.

Catapult with 2 LRM 20's, with 11 tons of LRM ammo.

My XL295 Hunchback with 9 small lasers is still the best. I call it the assault shredder. I think I liked it better when I used pulse lasers, but I can't justify that weight difference for the actual pulse benefits when I'm getting extra speed, more heatsinks and/or an AMS.

Not sure if this is a bug but I was in an atlas and overheated and when it came back it still had the dim red overheated warning (but I could fire and move). Lasted for 2 minutes until I shut the mech down and restarted it.
