then an Atlas which got him down to 78%

I am surprised the Atlas did the damage to him. To be honest, in my hunchback config, I kill atlases all day long (and it sounds like it is probably the same config). One on one, I would take that hunchback against anything but an awesome (it moves/turns just a little too fast with all the armor it has). But that is also the great thing about that config, I typically get to choose my battles/fights since it moves around 110...

I just started playing a jenner last night. Having mostly piloting an atlas, I saw plenty of these guys and had a pretty chance to see first hand what tactics work and which ones do not. I played 6 matches last night and only died 1 time, but typically had 2 kills in every match (except for the match that I got stuck in a hole in the map and could not get out, even with jump jets...). I found it pretty fun.

My jenner (I believe the jenner-f):
Engine: 300 XL (really is there any other choice)
6x Small lasers
max armor
1 jump jet
rest heatsinks

I have three weapon groups configured, one an alpha, and 2 groups for the 3 lasers on the left and 3 on the right side of the mech. For the most part you can alpha for about 5 or 6 shots in a row, then you need to start cycling either of the 3 lasers to keep you heat down. I like having the right and left grouped differently so that depending on buildings/obstacles you can fire the ones that will not get blocked to begin with and save on the heat buildup.

In this config, there is pretty much nothing out there faster than you, so you should be able to run behind anything and be able to stay there until you kill them (or they get backup to get you off of them). Also don't forget about the key tactical advantage of being able to disengage from a fight, and re-engage on your own terms, and at times you can even turn the tide of the battle by disengaging and capping while all their heavy and assault mechs are too far away to do anything about it (or even cause enough of them to need to pull out so that your team can get the advantage).

i think the SRM "fix" is ok with me. I kinda wish they would stagger fire in pairs of 2 instead of launching all at the same time. you shouldnt be able to lumber up to someone and blast out their center torso from 150m away with 24 SRMs. theyre not pinpoint weapons.

actually according to the rules they are.

In TT, for SRMs, you roll to
1) See if you hit at all
2) If you did hit, roll to see how many you hit with
3) You then roll for different damage locations depending on how many you hit with

For LRMs, you...
do the same thing. The grouping is just different.

Unless they changed this recently (I played 2nd edition, Compendium and then Master Rules editions).

Nope, still the same.

Each SRM missile does 2 points of damage and you roll each missile's hit location separately.

That is the down side with the jump jets, only good for up and down. If you want to move forward while jumping, you need the momentum from moving before activating them.

grouping makes you more effective, but you really have to have voice chat to get things going. Makes it far easier.

which really shouldnt be the case. ive always imagined them as being a nimble device to get you where you need to go. twisting in mid air and everything. they feel pretty clunky in game.

yep yep. SRM's are crit finders. Even UAC's are suppose to hit different locations when firing 2 shots. A nice recoil action that takes the aim a bit off could simulate that chance to miss the second shot as well as make the shot hit a different location, unless your good and can compensate for the recoil before the second shot goes off.

From the Total Warfare book:

Multi-Missile Launcher
The multi-missile launcher can fire SRMs or LRMs, and each
missile type retains its characteristic damage and ranges.
MMLs can use standard SRM or LRM ammunition, as well as all
missile special munitions that can be used by either LRM or SRM
launchers (see p. 140). This includes Artemis and Narc-compatible
missiles.
Damage is assigned per the type of missile fi red; LRMs fi red
from an MML are divided into 5-point Damage Value groupings,
while SRMs are divided into 2-point groupings.

All I have to say is that I believe I have found my new mech Wow it was fun last night in the jenner. Had a 5 kill match, and people were screaming at me over chat all pissed off.

The real bonus is that if my team is really crappy, I don't have to die like the rest of them because I can outrun everything in the game, so it turns into is it faster to go cap or try and corner me somehow (when I can simply blow right past you anyway to slip through any "net" that you have setup to catch me).

And not sure how good narc will be given the proliferation of ams on the field. It is fun to run a lrm boat right after a reset, but once everyone starts tinkering with their design the effectiveness takes a big hit.

Jenners and fast mechs like laserboat hunch's are not that bad to hit even with a gausscat. People always complain about jenners when in gausscats but i dont get it. I have racked up dozens of jenner kills with my K2 dual gauss cat.

You just have to play it smart.

Shoot them when they are circling someone else on your team, stop moving yourself to make it easier if possible, and shoot them at the two sides of there circling where they are running directly towards or away from you to maximize you chance to hit them and take leading out of the picture.

Or if they are a dumb jenner pilot and run up behind a atlas to take that perfect back CT shot shoot them in that instant that they are not moving, one shot is all it takes in a gausscat and you should be watching your assault mechs backs from a elevated position anyways making those shots easy to take.

If you must kill them when they are right ontop of you i prefer to just knock them down and shoot them when they get up. Failing that then stop moving so you can turn faster and put your back to a wall and just try and lead them and get them when they whip by, with some practice you can actually get pretty good at this.

This is why i avoid K2 cats like they have the black plague when im in my jenner, ill go screw with a atlas no problem but try and avoid K2 cats.

OMG guys last night I took a Commando with no armor and 4 small laserz and had 8 kills. the match was over in 34 seconds becauze I just ran into their base at 240 kph and shot everyone of them in the head because that's all I aim for. Everyone was screaming at me at first but then they bowed before my might and so should you OMG.

I'm guessing the "Module Slot" that will eventually be available at Master Level is adding another hardpoint to a Mech?

Dual Gauss Atlas?

Tried out a few games yesterday and MAN I suck at the game. Part of it is learning where to go on the maps but my biggest annoyance is aiming... I've been trying for headshots but with no luck. the stuff seems to just impact and then do center torso damage even though I'm pretty sure I'm hitting the cockpit (turns red!) Any tips on how to headshot mechs?
