I've got a bad feeling about this, i was excited but cartoony look in the picture, free to play, lack of talj from developer and licensing fights = bad news

The "cartoony look" is their artist's (re)rendering of the mechs for MWO. The engine itself is using Cryengine 3 and will likely follow the same style shown in the short gameplay trailer from it's MW5/MW3015 days.

As I never played MechWarrior, what's a brief syopsis of the most popular game mode? This isn't a true MMO in the sense of having a huge interlinked game world, right?

As long as it looks as good as the Crysis mod (LL), then I'll be satisfied.

The textures don't look all that good and the colours seem rather flat and washed out...

The trailer doesn't excite me either but the fact that it's still February and MWO is coming closer... does excite me very much.

It's a trailer. It's for hype. Also, it's in-engine

Even if it is, it's cinematic mode. If "in-game" cinematics from other titles that have gone this route have taught us anything, cinematic/cut scene rendering in-game has absolutely nothing to do with the actual in-game rendering itself.

It may be engine-rendered, but done not real-time, pre-rendered and post-processed. So essentially, a cut-scene that has nothing to do with the game itself.

Not to harp, but many many years ago, City of Heroes used "in-game/game engine" rendered trailers that looked phenomenal. The quality of those renderings was absolutely NOT available to the game client, and still isn't to this day.

I agree. It is just a movie trailer. Can't take anything from it other than the fact is they are saying,'We're still here and working on it and its coming'.

If they do something akin to WoT style with xp/credits and good matchmaking this game could turn out to be very good. Mechs are inherently more customizable than tanks (especially in the MW universe). You'll also have a better variety of tactics available to you, especially with jump jets. Not to mention the effects of heat from the surrounding terrain (lava, ice, regular planets).

I thought the idea of a trailer was to wow people and get them excited. That was one of the laziest trailer I've ever seen.

Not sure how they'd handle WoT-style Platooning in MWO...

They have the Lance (4 mechs?) in the IS or the Star (5 mechs?) as a Clanner. (my BT is rusty)

Disagree. You get to see ingame assets (i.e. that is what the Atlas looks like, quite cool to see the 3d model off of the artist's rendition), as well as the in-game cockpit and ingame HUD.

It's a quick teaser folks, so much bitching over something freely given.

OMFG. How did I miss this?
Reserved my usual nickname, Harabecw.
I've been waiting since forever (or MW4, whichever is older), picked up WoT a while ago as its the closest thing I can get to mech combat.

This cannot come out soon enough...

EDIT: Just watched the teaser. Two words that bring back so many memories, all the way back to MW2 - "Reactor - Online"

They messed it up though.

Reactor - Online. Weapons - Online. All Systems - Online.

It was All Systems Nominal.

/uproar/rage/aaaaaahhhhhh

Not that I care either way, it's just a nice touch to bring back into the fold.

I looked through most of what seemed like relevant info including the FAQ on the game website...what kind of players per game(ie 8 vs 8, 16 vs 16 etc) are expected?

Last I heard it was three lances facing off, so 12 vs 12 matches. I've also heard that a potential balancing force against the introduction of the Clans (and the accompanying tech superiority of their omnimechs and associated weaponry) is that it will pit two stars (10 omnimechs) versus the Inner Sphere's three lances. (should also answer your question Elcs )

Also, glad someone else is raging with me, although a current theory is they changed it to "Online" to emphasize the game title

Hopefully it's not just deathmatch, that gets old quick. I played MW:LL for awhile but just deathmatch doesn't do it for me anymore. They need to have objectives in at least one mode. Maybe defending a base or escort.

Another mode I thought of. Have the 2 sides escort mining equipment to the same spot in almost parallel paths. If there's a enemy mech within 500m, the equipment stops and deploys shields. If they take damage from long range then they stop when their health hits a limit they stop and regen health. The equipment needs to get to the site and operate for 5 mins for one side to win.

I agree, while I think TDM is going to be fun considering the information warfare emphasis this game has, it will get boring over time (and I far prefer objective-based gameplay). I do remember reading on their forums other gameplay modes being planned, but I don't know if that was speculation or based on developer comments.

At least you aren't spawning all over a tiny map dual wielding PPCs or some sort of melee weapon for 1 hit kills. :awe:
