What was a bigger disapppointment, MWOnline or SWTOR?

Never played SWTOR but MWOnline was definitely not managed correctly. I last played about six months ago, don´t think I ever activated my premium credit. It definitely wasn´t ready to go live when they launched it, and the devs promised so much that I guess they just never lived up to the hype. Mainly I just got tired of waiting for a "finished" product.

Who knows, might install it again just to see if things are any better.

Its possible to fix. I posted a huge message on their forum about all the balance issues with the game back when it was still in beta, which was promptly ignored and then deleted for not toeing the company line (I was too "negative"). Even though I gave them all perfect ways to fix each and every problem, problems that they are still having to this day which you see with them constantly changing weapon damage, cycle timings, and heat output, which all would have gone away had they simply balanced them as I said, using the formulas for heat per cycle, damage per cycle, and ammo per ton vs modified armor ratings. All of which would have then allowed them to keep the standard values for single/double heatsink efficiency, and proper engine heatsink ratings... All things that they are still to this day tweaking every patch, meaning developer time still being wasted on them....

I started playing again as a friend wanted to get into it. Still have not activated VIP time.

but anyway, the game itself is better in terms of lag / hitting targets. I have not seen any lag issues.

Down side is with the long time away, soo many patch changes ect, I have been called noob (driving a founder mech) and even a waste of a slot as I get use to it all again. General player mentality is definitly crap and that alone is reason to wish the game would die.

Just thinking it must be getting close to a year since the closed beta's started, and the game is still beta.

seems to be a patch. Normally not worth mentioning seeing as most of it is new mechs and skins but the weapon changes gave me a smile.

LRM damage increased to 1.1 per missile (SRM's looking at some information are still 1.5 per missile). The point of srms seems silly.

though this link (data pulled from game files IIRC) shows ammo exploding being more than the weapon's hit damage (missiles). But increased greatly if using Artemis.

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

small point. standard LRM, 1.1 on hit, 0.7 on internal explosion.
Artemis SRM, 1.5, 2.5 on internal explosion.

Just stupid. /shakes head

other changes, probably to combat the "poptards" mentioned before, aiming while jumping is randomly inaccurate now.

That was one thing I didn't like even back in the closed beta, the community. At the time if you spoke of anything negative about the game they would white knight like I have never seen.

I wrote this simulator for the battles to try and show the developers just how bad the balance was and which weapon combinations were clearly excessively powerful but they didn't pay any attention to it. Fundamentally they made some choices and moved away from canon and got themselves into a very difficult to balance situation.

I love all the hate and people thinking highly of themselves in this thread!

all in all the game is in a pretty good place right now. they just need to fix PPC boating, make NARC useful and get on with community warfare already.

the last few patches have completely eliminated firing delay and lag for all weapons. SRMs are in a decent spot. They can put down some hurt, but mass stacking them inst stupid powerful. LRMs are useful for the most part again. Poptarting has been fixed with the jumpjetting shake (thank god!).
I played a few hours Tuesday night with my usual crew and they were some of the best matches ive played in a long time. Very tactical. being in a 4 man group with voice chat is the BEST way to play the game. Pubbing solo can get you down. Too many people love to run off and die alone playing rambo.

for all the time i play this game, which is quite a lot, i hardly ever see anyone being pricks. it happens from time to time, but its pretty rare.

re PPC boating - It is a fun change as back 6 months ago I was rolling a atlas-rs with 4 er lasers. constant and continues fire ticked off people no end. right mouse was alpha strike

re srm boating - I found that fine before as you had to close to be effective to deliver a punch. The old mech was the 80 ton, two large lasters and 4 6xsrm. it made players that wanted to go toe to toe for some reason to hold back. Now, it is a waste of a mech as the weapon points do not give anything I want from it. Though on a side note, I tried 4 streak packs on and the ecm make it a nearly pointless weapon. Though it does seem buged as I am getting locks at 1000m with it.

re rlm boating - had a game with a lrm boat again and someone else on my team was similary setup. At least two enemy players raged on dieing about LRM's before leaving.

The devs are clearly committed to a course of action that will never resolve balance issues and perpetuate most of the issues of the previous mechwarrior games in multi-player. They are running roughshod over canon as well. Their stance on ECM is completely undefendable, against the majority of the community, and completely backwards to canon.

I keep coming back every few months and I feel like they've dug themselves deeper every time. If you go back and look up PGI's metacritic score history is clear why this is happening....

Well, I posted again in their forums last night in yet another weapon balance thread they had about how easy it would be to fix the balance issues if they simply followed cannon + compensating weapon systems due to modifications to make the game more enjoyable as a video game (armor hp buffs for longer matches, and weapon cycle time changes from the TT's 10 second rounds). Pointed out how doing so would keep them from wasting hours of developer time every month buffing/nerfing weapons that people then figure out is the next best uber-weapon based on the arbitrary changes the devs had made in the previous patch.... Got a few face-palm gifs immediately from the said white knights, even though I had all the math shown right in front of them...

As soon as you mention canon most people tune out. They don't know what it is, they don't care, and make the asinine assumption that its not important. I gave up on the forum. Nobody wants to listen, least of all PGI.

Like I said a few posts above. This game has some of the worst white knighting I've ever seen.

I played it several months ago and just tried to install it again, and cannot get it to work.

2 days of corresponding with support no joy yet.

Yeah, the forums are a terrible place. There's a giant circle jerk of players who log on just to rest PGI's balls on their chins everyday.

It's not quite canon, it's not perfect, it's kinda only part Battletech...

But it's still darn fun to have a few games on every so often. It's a gameplay experience that I have never found outside of a Battletech game and I enjoy it for that.

Their support sucks though. If I am lucky I get 1 email exchange per day, and the first 3 have been having me do stupid crap like check my windows installer, directx, .net, and c++, all of which I checked initially and have had no other problems with at all. Then they had me send a dxdiag.

Today they had me run their repair tool, which crashed immediately, and reinstall in root, which I have already tried... I'm jumping through their hoops and it is a very slow process.

I sent in the crash report and patch log on the very first email and they seemed to ignore it, I wonder if they will ignore the crash report for the repair tool as well.

Anyone ever seen this before?

Caught an exception somewhere in the patcher. Closing down...
Exception messages:
-------------------
Parameter is not valid.
--------------------------
+System.ArgumentException: Parameter is not valid.
at Patcher.GamePatcherForm..ctor(Boolean a_bIsBackgroundPatcher, Boolean a_bIsDedicatedServerPatcher)
at Patcher.Program.Main(String[] a_args))

Error appears immediately after the Mechwarrior logo and I never reach a UI.

Already verified that windows installer, c++, .net, directx are working, tried installing to root and installing with antivirus disabled, also checked antivirus logs and found nothing. Checked file permissions and set them all users to allow, no effect.

MWO installs without error, however the file size is 8.78 MB, if I download a torrent with all the game files and completely replace all files I still get the exact same error.

If I run the MWO repair tool it crashes immediately.

I've already repaired .net 4 and tried installing SQLServer2005_BC, to no effect. As well as cleaning my registry/ rebooting/ reinstalling/ rebooting, numerous times. Ran Defrag yesterday.

*solved* Sort of...

If I log into a non admin user account I can get to the launcher, patching now. This is the only program on my computer that exhibits such odd behavior.

Its on the level of mechassault for being cannon at this point.

Actually this is worse than mechassault if you ask me. Mechassault at least tried. These guys didn't even do that. They simply said, well double heatsinks are too powerful if they actually do double the heatsinking... We didn't like how pulse lasers were suppose to be more accurate/pinpoint/concentrated damage. What the heck is exit velocity (and why can my AC/20 rounds can be dodged (hint, its because they are only moving at 300-400m/s when they should be around 800-1000m/s... heck the Battleship NJ's guns had an exit velocity of ~750m/s and these are 1000 years later))? Too many people use SRMs and they do too much damage, so lets nerf them. Why isn't anyone using energy weapons aside from small and medium lasers? (Could it possibly be because you needed 16 heatsinks to compensate for the heat of 1 PPC when it should only have taken 9 (assuming you had already used the built in heatsinks from the engine, oh wait, those don't count?)).

Hey, I know, why not have heatsinks and energy weapons do the damage they are suppose to, generate heat at the rate they were suppose to, and heatsinks remove the heat they are suppose to? Nah, we will just keep messing with the damage values of everything each patch instead....

And now it gets worse... heat penalties! If you have over a certain number of the same weapons they will generate heat in excess of the sum of their parts. So instead of 10 ML = 30 heat, 10 ML = 35 heat (just as an example). These guys just keep getting dumber and dumber.

Now they're talking about implementing heat penalties for firing "too many" of a single weapon type simultaneously. They want to curb alpha strikes.

LMFAO

They're proposing that if you fire 4 PPCs at once, they not only create 28 heat (4 x 7 heat per PPC) but an ADDITIONAL 10 heat on top of that.

To make matters worse, if your Mech exceeds an arbitrary "heat threshold" your internal structure takes damage.

I think what they want at launch is everyone walking around firing once about every 5 seconds.

You and me both. The trend I've noticed since first playing this game about three months before open beta is it becomes less and less fun the more work PGI puts into it.
