Tried out a few games yesterday and MAN I suck at the game. Part of it is learning where to go on the maps but my biggest annoyance is aiming... I've been trying for headshots but with no luck. the stuff seems to just impact and then do center torso damage even though I'm pretty sure I'm hitting the cockpit (turns red!) Any tips on how to headshot mechs?

The cockpit is not always in the "head"

Atlas cockpit is left eye, so the eye on YOUR right when he is facing you, it is very small and hard to hit.

Cat cockpit is large and easy to hit, its the windshield you see in the middle of the CT.

Awesome cockpit is retarded easy to hit, its in the massive head and has a hitbox the size of a hot air ballon. If you cant kill a awesome in 2 headshots in less than 10 seconds your hand eye coordination must be worse than a blind guy. I seriously feel bad cockpit shotting awesome in my gausscat, its literally like taking candy from a baby.

Hunch also is in the head but since the head is sunken into the top of the CT and has a very small hitbox it can be a pain to hit, luckily the RT hold most of a hunchs arsenal and is very very easy to hit and lightly armored. I almost always core them through the RT cause almost all of them fit XL engines making the RT destruction also a killshot.

Jenner head is similar in location in the middle of the CT to a cat, but much smaller and harder to hit, also almost always moving way to fast to get off a cockpit shot. But very very easy to leg, i try and leg jenners whenever possible and then just let the LRM boats finish them off since they cant avoid the LRM when they cant move.

Commando is always moving to fast to headshot, but is so lightly armored a few good hits to any location will kill them in short order.

Dragon heads are not as easy to hit as you would think, they are in the upper middle of the CT where you would expect but the protruding nose and small raised LT and RT make it hard to hit. The CT though is massive and easy to hit so i usually just try and core them straight through the CT, they usualy move too fast to make aimed shots effective anyways since they can do 100kph with even a small engine upgrade over stock.

And the poor cent, has a head which is fairly easy to hit, i would place it between the poor awesome and hunch in difficulty. However the arms on this thing are just huge and make headshots from the sides difficult. I usually blow off the weapon arm first since they are very lightly armored, then go for the headshots once the main weapon am is out of the way.

I mean in the game. Streaks are homed into the CT.

Yes. I'd like it if that changed so they homed on whatever location you're aiming at but had a chance to spread to other locations as well depending on your movement and the enemy's movement.

Thanks for the tips. I've been having some success headshooting cats but haven't gotten around to fighting awesomes or dragons for some reason. Most games is just filled with atlases, cats and hunchbacks with 2 jenners running around.

Finally fire up the 2 barreled cat last night. Didn't do any mods, just took the default up. Either they've tweaked ppcs or they aren't nearly as slow as people have implied. Not gauss quick, but fellt pretty decent. Got 3 kills in first match. Ppc headshot, then a single dual shot cored through a weakened dragon, and finally a sl hunch that tried to circle me at pointblank, so I just pelted him with mg fire till his head fell off. That was probably the most satisfying for some odd reason.

i do enjoy running my founders cat with 2 ERPPCs and a shitload of heat sinks. PPCs need to be faster. And i swear it seems like theres a firing delay with them sometimes.

I was actively dodging an 8Q shooting PPC bursts at me from 800m away just by moving back and forth slightly.

Spent a few hours yesterday in a couple premade groups. It was the most fun I've had playing a game online in ages.

Headshots are still pretty easy. Feels cheap.

i swear they need to make the hitbox 1 pixel. it is a little too easy some days.

Yeah, I do feel it cheapens the game a little when someone can waltz into a match with a couple Gauss rifles and get 6 kills. Does it speak to the skill of the pilot? Sure, but it also says they have a much more sensitive mouse than most. My success in the game has really gone up since I've started using a Logitech G5.

Ok so my first game with no dc I got 3 kills with that twin ppc cat. Do I have to upgrade so I can get exp and modify my mech?

to get exp (IIRC) you need to be using a mech you purchased, not one of the trial mechs. Using trial only gives money.

I've still held off, despite a desire to spite world of tanks. $120 is just a lot, $60 leaves me expecting I'd miss the other three founder mechs, and $30 is questionable value.

Right now that's leaving play it as a free game, not sure how well that would go.

But with hundreds of games waiting, ok to not get something too.

has the mouse polling issue been fixed? i had to turm my sensitivity way down so it didnt chop like a mofo every time i moved the mouse.

also, hows the performance for people. im running at 1280x1024 at Low with a 7870 and it gets choppy as hell sometimes. especially when running a jenner at full speed and making lots of quick turns.

Unless youre a Battletech Fan id skip the 120$. the $60 is a good value if you like this kind of game. I wouldnt bother with $30 unless you want in the beta right now and dont want to spend more money. And if you do pay, this is a beta. Bugs everywhere and not the best balance yet.

The founders are just stock mechs that can be bought in game. Only difference is you get a 25% cbill bonus when using it and a different skin.
So youre not missing much if you dont get the $120 package. Youll just have to buy the 4 mechs in game if you really want them. And they're not the best varients either, so you may be better off buying a different model.

I think the premium account bonus is better than rolling through with a founders mech. Of the 4 founders i only use the Catapult regulary. Ive been using the Jenner more lately. But the Hunchback and Atlas Ive hardly touched.

I get 40+ FPS always even in massive batles with system in sig, at 1080P, and thats not using SLI as it doesnt work yet.

Running at 19x12 on both my comps and even the one with just a 280 runs the game pretty smooth.

You could probably get away with the $60 buy in pretty easy as long as you play enough to pick which one you want for your cash mech before the period ends. No armor/ammo cost yet to see how much they're going to try and soak from you on a per engagement basis.

it runs nice and smooth 90% of the time. but that fast motion just kills it for whatever reason. I cant see the FPS counter either. can see it just fine in the mechlab, but in battle, nope. With my old 9600gt i could only see the counter in the hunchback, nothing else.

7750 on medium, 1280x1024. 25-35FPS. No boost from CF, and lowering from high to medium settings didn't help either.

I was assuming it was my CPU.

I'm running an Intel 2500K stock and a 1GB AMD 5870 GPU. Everything is maxxed out at 1920x1200 resolution and I average about 40 fps.

So with the repair changes XL engines are now completely impractical... Costs more to repair my mech even in some games where I win and am still alive... Couldn't afford to repair my awesome by 400k in a match where I won, but died towards the end...

That was always the primary knock against xl, their cost. Never really been a big factor in the video games though and you have to figure they are still tweaking things.

Was thinking about the uacs recently, if I recall you only had a chance to jam when you used them in u mode, how will the game handel that or will it be abstracted out to a chance on any use?

played a couple rounds at lunch. Was running my K2 with a 265XL. Got cored in the CT pretty early by 4 vollies of 6 MLas bursts from an Atlas. repair costs were 60k or so and only for armor and internal structure. No component repair. so im guessing you can get cored no problem with taking no item damage.
