Heh. Most amusing beta invite evar. I almost thought it was spam.

I just got that too and came here to see what was up. I actually got the separate emails though. One came in this morning at 4:59am saying

Congratulations MechWarrior!
Piranha Games recently sent you a Closed Beta invitation via email. You’re in!! We noticed you haven’t yet logged in and downloaded the client. Login now at mwomercs.com, check your profile page and get downloading! Access is instant.

Then one at 7:00pm saying

Your receiving this email because we made a piloting error. You have just recently received an email that was meant to go out to only all our great Closed Beta testers. So we really apologize for making this mistake and hope you will forgive us.

In order to help with that forgiveness, we have decided to grant you beta access as of this email!

Please enjoy the game and help us make an even better product as Closed Beta continues, as after we have fixed our error we are closing the door again.

Yup, this happened to me too. Got the mistake closed-invite email and then the apology email. Downloading now.

I wonder how many people have been invited to the closed beta because of this "mistake"?

DHS will also make light Mechs quite a bit more deadly. Right now it's hard enough to deal with a Jenner running around at 100+ kph but at least he's not able to load up with medium lasers and do 30 points of damage with each alpha strike.

Now he'll be able to dissipate 20+ heat right from the get go without adding any more heat sinks. A Jenner with 6x small lasers and 13 single heat sinks now becomes a Jenner with 6x medium lasers and 10 double heat sinks.

IS double heatsinks use 3, Clan use 2. Not sure if we will get clan ones anytime soon (or else they will be rare just like they are suppose to be in the beginning of the war since IS lost every engagement for months and thus never was able to salvage much of anything on the field to look at the tech).

So wouldn't they technically have to make DHS variants of the Standard and XL engines? I thought you couldn't mix the heatsinks. This would mean bulkier engines I assume, but not sure how that would work...

3-slot DHS means I can't put them in the legs too which is disappointing. Oh well.

You guys do realize that probably wasnt actually a mistake, they are grabbing more players because on their fourms right now there is masses of people leaving the game and they need enough players to fill the servers.

The poll in the beta forums right now asking who is out till they fix the crap that is this patch is sitting at 30%+. PGI essentially drove off 30% of the playerbase with a single patch, good job guys.

That's probably not the type of thing you're supposed to post outside the beta forum. There is certainly a lot of feedback there on this patch.

I agree, however have you seen 4chan lately? check out the vg section. You cant screw up as bad as they did and expect to keep a lid on it.

I've given up reading this thread as well as the Forums.

I have read both of your threads over there and I disagree with you but the amount of whine/cry/whinge going on within the Forums has put me off going there.

I'll happily keep testing, sending support tickets and posting helpful topics when I can.

You think the game can survive with that level of grind? simple yes or no answer.

PGI spoiled them with tons of cash for testing, then when they start the balancing process, people complain. its testing! theyre still working on the balance. and its a FtP game, meaning some grind will exist. i think they need to double the payouts or so, but good god, payouts wernt going to be 1.5 mil forever.

Oh they were way high before, but they swung this even lower on the low side than they were on the high side before. Over correction if ive ever seen one.

And honestly i think the fact that 4chan was praising this game before(very very rare thing for 4chan to praise anything) and is just ripping it apart now says alot.

Well it's beta so I hope they are still testing and open to changes, which is why I'm hesitant to comment. But... it certainly looks like they are taking a less carrot, more stick approach to revenue generation here. Given the IMO steep buy-in on the founders packs I guess that shouldn't be a surprise though. There's got to be something to spend that $80 game cash on. A lot of these f2p games are starting to look rather expensive to me.

After some more play time the issue is not really the economy, its that the latest patch removed all performance based rewards. Thats why everyone is suiciding and zerg rushing the enemy to die ASAP. They get paid out the same as if they killed all mechs themselves, so why not just die ASAP and get into the next game. Why bother trying and playing well and using tactics when you dont get paid more and all that does is waste time and slow down the money rolling in.

Ironic. SWTOR had this same problem with the warzones. Then they put in a fix for it, and people whined. Then they fixed the fix, and people whined.

Go read the mwo forums dude, you will find out all you want to know about it. Or 4chan.

EDIT, i also dont think they are banning people there are literally dozens of people posting info on 4chan with the same usernames as MWO forums and some of them are saying really really bad things about mwo, and are still posting in the mwo forums.

Also im changing my poisistion, they didnt kill the game, they just removed the drive for people to play the game, i hope for balancing reasons, and i hope they fix it soon.

TBH, this is nowhere near as fun as MPBT:3025 was in beta - and MPBT didn't even have a mechlab. You'd run stock variants (with weight class caps for planets to make you take different 'mechs, which is why it was fun for everyone). Plus, the fact that my poor old E8400 gets slaughtered by the Cryengine makes me think of a refund.
