I'm glad that I have finally made a decent contribution to the members of AT, with my "discovery" here.

But......

Or at the very least.....

The best performing 1GB stick under $120.

I was thinking about this one or this one.

Feel free to give me your comments on the ones that I have linked as well as make suggestions of your own.

"Samsung Fined $90 Million for DRAM Price Fixing"

Related? Hm...
Not a chance; they all made many multiple times more in profits, than they paid in fines. The reason the price is dropping is because Xmas is over, along with the fact that most people who were planning on buiding or buying a C2D-based system have already done so.

Vista. As for fines - if they ignore the courts again, that fine will be much bigger next time.
Umm, this isn't the first time the DRAM industry has been caught and fined for price fixing.
And chances are, it won't be the last. Of course, as long as the fines are less than the profits, like I said to begin with, why should they care? BTW, RAM prices are still $100 per 2GB kit more than they were late last spring.

I'm guessing you haven't seen the Super Talent 2GB Hot deal thread for $120 + shipping yet

You guys can all thank me for the price drop as I just got done buying some expensive DDR2-1000, Ballistix Tracers. As soon as I buy something expensive, the prices always drop.

Micron Technology (MU) , a maker of memory chips used in consumer electronics, warned of softer prices for its DRAM and NAND flash chips. Micron Tech told analysts Friday that DRAM prices would drop 15% to 20% in the current quarter, while NAND flash would tumble 30% to 40%, according to broker UBS.

When will the prices hit rock bottom?

In other words...When is the right time to buy?

Not fast enough. I purchased 2GB of OCZ DDR2-800 Platinum memory for $200 about six months ago. Prices promptly went up by 25% a week later, and have only fluctuated above my original price since then.

Thanks for the D9 link.

I live in Jamaica so unfortunately, MIR does not apply to me.
Thanks though.

Also, the G.SKILL RAM I'm interested in doesn't seem to use D9 chips but it seems VERY SOLID.

Last year I got some nice memory at the egg for 115 or 121 after rebate (50 dollar rebate) and that was in June. Right now the price for that same memory is 230. Right after that sale, the prices went skyward. So, I would wait until late spring to buy if this year is going to be anything like last year.

I read the same Micron press release and I am having trouble to see a consumer's price reduction of Micron D9 modules.

Crucial Ballistics are still in the $300 range for a 2GB PC6400.

I'm still trying to decide on the best 1GB stick below $120.
Where are the memory experts that can help me out in making that decision?
