I am looking to do a memory upgrade but don't know if the crucial memory I currently have is worth buying again. Can be seen here http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs....72Y265&WSMD=CT6472Y265&WSPN=CT6472Y265">memory</a>Not sure what the advantage is really and don't notice it. I red you should match your memory modules when adding them. If thats so, would it be worth the upgrade to go with "value ram" and maybe get 2gb? Do I do away with error checking? What about the speed? I have a Tyan S2462 Thunder K7 mobo. I use this system for web surfing and video editing.

At that price, you should go for 1GB. You can easily get a 1GB stick for less than $100.

Yeah, but the board the schultzey11 has is a Tyan dualie Athlon MP board that apparently (based on Crucial's memory configurator) can only run registered ECC PC 2100. Tyan's website seems to be down right now, so I can't idependently confirm that the board requires registered ECC memory, but I suspect that schultzey11 is quite limited in his memory choices because of the board.

If you want to get 2GB of memory for that board, you might have to cruise FS/FT or eBay to see if anyone is unloading some 1GB registered ECC PC 2100 sticks for cheap. The cheapest I can find at the Egg is this Trancend stick for $128. You might be able to find something that fits your needs cheaper with more searching.

Well trying to be as non-bias as I can...if you have not had any trouble with your current memory why not stay with Crucial? Sure I understand the price is a bit more but for worry free use, how much of a price can you put on that?

Most all of your Tyan motherboards require ECC at least and like the S2462 Thunder K7 it also requires registered. These specs are from the Tyan website. Is PC2700 or PC3200 backwards compatible? Well, I would say the only thing to do is try it and find out, just buy the faster memory from someone you can get an exchange for the PC2100 if it does not work.

I hope this helps.

I use Crucial for all my client's systems. Good reputable company, reliable memory. You also get free 2 day Fedex delivery - I always get it in 2 business days from them (I'm in central Florida).

Whatever you use make SURE you use an online memory configurator like Crucial's (most manufacturers have one now) to make sure you get the memory that's an exact match for your mobo.

Modern mobos are VERY fussy about memory. Just browse these forums and notice how many posts are about people who bought some memory on special at NewEgg or elsewhere, later to find out the the memory wasn't ideal for their particular mob. Yeah you might be able to tweak to RAM timing in BIOS and make it work through trial and error, but why go through the aggravation?

Just use Corsair VS 1 gig. Its cheaper I believe and Corsair is a rock solid company. I beleve 70 percent of people put Corsair VS into their new rigs.
