I used to shop at Express a lot, but find that a lot of stuff is, like you said, very easy to fade and the quality isn't just what I'm looking for. Lately, I find myself buying stuff from Neiman Marcus (deparment store www.neimanmarcus.com), Hugo Boss, Versace/D&G/Armani Exchangeetc...

It may be too expensive for what you're looking for, but I think you should take a look at Armani Exchange if you're into the urban look.

agreed with all said here. department stores for more selection... and stuff is nice when theyre on sale. most of my work pants are microfiber claiborne, kenneth cole, etc, and theyre comfy and cheap when i got em!

shirts i wear mostly express because they have superior fit. the quality of them is hit-or-miss... i have some br but like the way express fits.

guess is great stuff when you can get them cheap! rl is nice, too, but im not a fan of their durability


edit: ive never ever correlated gap with quality. never fit well and never last a bit. i worked there as a kid and had a ton of their apparel..all junk

Wear what feels comfortable, looks good for your body type and complexion, and fits within your budget.

I personally wear a mix of AE, the Gap, and Costco for my personal wear. For work clothing, though, I'm exclusively a Nordstrom man.

As far as jeans are concerned, Levi's FTW. I have 2 pairs that I've had for more than a year, at least a hundred+ washes on both, and they still look awesome. I hate jeans from American Eagle, Aeropostale, Hollister, and any other similar stores. They're always tight as hell, they all come "pre-damaged", and I've never seen them in a color that didn't look weird or have 6 other colors with it on the same damn pair of pants.

I love American Eagle's polos and shirts; their tees, not so much, but that doesn't stop me from buying those when they're on mad clearance. So far, I haven't had a single piece of clothing from there fade or tear on me, so I guess it's pretty good stuff. Check out Abercrombie & Fitch, maybe Hollister. Stores like Ross and TJMaxx are freakin awesome for getting cheap dress shirts.

J Crew! Similar style alternatives. Century 21 (if theres one around you) has alot of good stuffs too. And if you want to pay retail...Macys will be there always.

To prevent fading go with either drycleaning or wool. Wool will need to be dycleaned so they wont be fading. Much more comfortable than cotton trousers.

Shopping at mall stores means you are paying for the marketing and not the quality. I would suggest finding high threadcount cotton shirts. They will wear much better and not wrinkle. My favorites are Joseph Abboud, Polo, and Michale Kors.

Listen to Fmr12B, he knows what he's talking about when it comes to quality.

I prefer Joseph Abboud myself (per his recommendation, actually. ), can get them for a reasonable price at Nordstrom Rack. I like Ike Behar, too.

Actually it is, Switch to a deodorant that does not contain Zinc. Zinc will cause stains. I use the Old Spice, the basic variety, as it contains no Zinc. Once I bought new undershirts and switched, I have not had a stain for 3+yrs.

J.Crew is probably the closest to BR in terms of quality and style. I buy from both regularly (especially BR) but only on sale, as their clothes can be overpriced for what you get. I'm not that big on Express anymore - I have some of their 1MX shirts but most of their stuff is too 'clubby' for business casual attire. Brooks Brothers has high quality fabrics and construction, but their shirts fit like a tent.
