Just got back from the movie. Wow what a great flick. It was kind of confusing throughout at some points just because I was getting a little lost but it all makes sense. The cinematography was fvcking awesome and it was just a downright badass movie.

I don't remember the show too much as I was really young when it was out (I'm 24 now) so I can't really tell you how it compares. I can tell you that people clapped and cheered at about 2-3 parts throughout the movie.

  from me.

EDIT:

also, this movie is so "not-hollywood" if you know what I mean. The music in the movie was also perfectly placed and sounded great.

Nice little write up about some of what went into the production of the film in EW...and when you have the exec. producer of the original series directing the film and he happens to be Michael Mann, I don't care what he does to it, it should be good. Noon showing for me...trying to get over this sudden illness.

I think people should not compare this movie to the TV series, or look at it as a remake of the series. The series was 20 years ago.

Besides, M. Mann directed the movie. He could make a movie about paint drying exciting.

I had forgotten about LOTM, but haven't see Manhunter yet. So it's pretty good?

Yeah, its the 1st movie to use Hannibal Lecter. The movie was remade a few years ago & called Red Dragon. Manhunter was made back in 1986. It has a cult following, especially for the soundtrack.

Crap, I forgot about one of Mann's best films: Thief starring James Caan. I think it was Mann's first movie

i heard it actually has very little to do with the TV series, except for character names.

anyway, I like Mann's movies and will eventually see this. I wonder if it ends in a similar fashion to his other movies (giant showdown, victory, cue credits)

I watched it tonight, i hated it. It was terrible. Long, drawn out dialogue, tried to be overdramatic, had no feeling. Very few action scenes. I didn't like the camera work at all, it was just annoying because of how "bumpy" it was. I'm sure their intention was to make u feel like you're in the action, but the way they did it i just didn't like. Don't waste your money.

The very first time I watched Heat I thought "meh". It was a bit slow, drawn out dialogue, overdramatic (like you described). After the 2nd viewing, I absolutely loved it and placed it among my all time favorites. Michael Mann is brilliant when it comes to character development. His movie, though, requires a bit of your attention span to fully enjoy.

I for one will definitely see Miami Vice even though I never watched the original TV series.

His movies not only have great dialogue, they also have have awesome cinematography The way he intergrates the soundtrack into his movies is perfect.

He is such a perfectionist.
