Hi,
Hoping to get some help on my Micro case build. Here are the components:
Apex MI-008 Tower P4 Chassis. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811154091
AS Rock H77M-ITX
Intel i3-2100
GSkill sniper 1 x 4 GB
Samsung 830 SSD 128GB
Samsung HD502HJ HDD 500GB
Asus Optical Drive
Scythe Kozuti SCKZT-1000 low profile cooler. http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=2614.

Main use is 2nd home computer web surfing no gaming. Problem is Speedfan shows CPU temp at 55 C. All other temps look good. Both cores 35C. HDD 36C.
Originally I had stock cooler with temps at 54C so thought to add aftermarket cooler but there are limited choices as I figure I can only use a 1.5U tall cooler.

Result same. Removed Scythe cooler once to check if thermal paste was covering. There was good coverage, maybe a little too much so reduce a little. Using arctic cooling MX-4 with X pattern for application. No change.

Not sure what to do at this point. Is this temp acceptable. Computer will run 2-3 hours at a time, maybe longer if downloading.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Justin
P.S. Hope this is the correct forum

55C is no problem for an Intel CPU. Worry if it hits 90C.

Thanks for your input. Figure cooler is always better. Have a similar build in a Mini case but with VGA card and temps 55+. Was having issues with losing graphics and when I lowered temps to 35+ problems went away.

Have had no shutdown problems or any other.
Another side note had to remove one 1x4 stick of memory to put Scythe cooler in.

Regards,
Justin

maybe instead of x pattern just try half a pea size in the center of the cpu?
as Larry said 55C is no problem, but that is also higher than my 100% load temps with a 6 core, so I would question it's effect on longevity

When I originally installed the stock cooler I skimmed both surfaces and applied rice size dot. I wondered if push pins were evenly holding cooler down. Like the idea of holding cooler in place screwed to board better.

Am wondering if there is just very limited airflow in this case. The HDD is mounted vertically next to one side vent. There are no case fans so air flow relies on CPU fan and PSU fan.

Thanks,
Justin

The cpu temps Speedfan shows is irrelevant. You should only look at the core temps and 35c is completely normal.

That case supports only one 120mm internal fan other than the cpu/ps, i'm also looking to replace my monster tower case i had for 4-years with something compact like yours, but internal cooling is huge. Water cooling won't fit in that case.

cooler master elite 130
I just did a build for my brother in one, There's ample space for an AIO in the front, and it has a side fan blowing on the motheboard, pair it with a reference card and you having a pretty cool running system (as far as itx goes). not easy to build in though...

I have a 128 GB SSD lying around and I think I can put it with or near the other SSD. At the moment I don't really need a large Data drive. I'm thinking of pulling the HDD and putting a fan where it now mounts to output the air.

With the price of SSD's dropping at sometime in the future could use them for Data storage.

Thanks,
Justin

I actually have no idea. But if you click configure in Speedfan you will see that the core temps are reported by 'INTEL CORE' and that the cpu temps are reported by the motherboards io-chip (in my case Nuvoton, might be different for your mobo).

I can't really tell you how Asrock set up that io-chip, it might even just report some bogus value. The point is, when comparing you should use the core temps because they're reported the same way for every Intel cpu.

Thanks for the insight. Will probably leave well enough alone.
