This sucks!

It shows there is still one workaround. Others claim you can also just disconnect the ethernet cable.

I've always used a local account, but I am wondering what the harm is in using a Microsoft account, and why they push for it. My outlook.com email account has only part of my name: William M, and my birth date. I could even create another with a fake birth date and name if I wanted.

So what information are they actually getting about me? They don't even have my last name.

The bad thing about using a MS account is it wants to sync everything by default. I want to keep all of my data local and off of MS cloud servers or any server for that matter.

Rufus offers you options when creating a windows install usb such as "create local account" and "disable network requirement" and it works perfectly fine still. I haven't installed windows online in ages.

Better to install completely offline so I can install the correct drivers before windows update decides to ruin everything.

You are screwed if/when you upgrade to Windows 11. I want nothing to do with Win11 due to this and all the other online integration with pushing ads and popups, etc.... I only upgraded to Win10 when Steam cut support for Win7.

I am on 11 23H2 and never used an online account in my life. There are workarounds for everything in windows. I think I made a group policy change or it doesn't ask during an upgrade vs fresh install (which I haven't done in 10 years), can't remember now.
