I guess if you have a mac, you can choose the last option since you probably don't know enough about computers to know what you have?

heh, jk

Well microsoft does have a few products it created for the Mac OS. Such as Office for OS X and internet explorer.

So if I was a mac user using IE I probably would try to go to microsoft.com at least once to see if they had any patches or upgrades for it. That is if I wasn't aware the dozen or so other, better, browsers for OS X.

Now that I think of it, I have never gone to microsoft.com before. I've gone to windowsupdate, but that's pretty much it. Nothing useful on microsoft.com, is there?

Well for Mac users, probably not.

For windows users the only thing I've ever used MS.com for is the updates, download versions of DirectX or IE to upgrade or repair things, and the knowledgebase articles which is about as close to a bug database as your going to get from MS.

The rest of the website is fairly worthless unless your doing business with MS.

Safari killed IE for Mac OS X.

The worst part is when you know something about computers and they treat you like an ignorant

Because if they don't know, you obviously don't know either.

This is silly, it's a page that tells you how to protect Microsoft Operating Systems. Why on earth should their be an option for non MS OSes?
why the heck do they have a i dont know option? are people that ignorant?
Yes they are

It's funny how people can tell you all sorts of technical information about their car (make, model, year, engine size, etc.) but they cant even tell you what OS they run on their computer...

With any piece of equipment I own I like to know at least the basics, than at least I know I'm using it right...
So if I was a mac user using IE I probably would try to go to microsoft.com at least once to see if they had any patches or upgrades for it.
As I recall there's a menu option in IE for the Mac that takes you to a page on their site where you can get the last of the updates they had for it (which is like IE 5.02 or something so there hasnt been anything there for almost 3 years).
Safari killed IE for Mac OS X
Microsoft stopped making IE for Mac well before Safari was released.

I would wage that at least 30% of people don't know what OS is on their PC.

That's what you think. On the phone you can usually figure out very quickly what OS they are using.

Even if they tell you that they are using WinXP, it only takes a couple minutes of trying to walk them thru a problem that they are realy using WinME. Happenned to me dozens of times, and it's irritating.

I had a old lady once tell me after spending 10 minutes explaining what icons and a desktop was that see normally refered to the desktop as the "pen" and the icons were little "piggies". (kinda cute)

So nothing I'd ever see will every suprise me when dealing with the ignorance of users. (not that ignorance is a sign of stupidity or anything, it's just a fact of life)

I can pretty much garrentee you that MS will get several people willing to spend good money on a service call to MS (and their ISP,their coporate support people, and anybody else paid to listen to them and can't fight back) and then yell at the techs when they find out that they the last several hours that they spent downloading the 266meg service pack over their 26.6kb/s dial up connection is going to go to waste on their Windows 98 machine.

I would hardly call Technet or MSDN parts of the site worthless.

I wouldn't suppose that you would call them worthless, but I would when talking about using the website as a end-user, which is what I ment.

Now for a Windows tech junky or a developer I guess that they would definately be bookmarked.

Yes. Most might answer "Windows" - if you ask what version, they might happen to remember. But not always. I'm finding that average users do not know much of anything about their computers.

A large number would also answer "Microsoft" to just about any query about what software they're running.

Some would also try to look for whatever it says on their monitor.

Yes but I heard MS was making IE6 for mac but ever since safari came out, they scrapped the project immediately. Kinda like a "Fine then, do what ever you want, we don't need your stinking business" Childish thing.

Edit: Preview button is not working, admins please fix it!
Edit2: Now it's workin, sighs.
