I recently upgraded my PC to a 1200Mhz Athlon with a MSI K7T Pro-2A.

Only thing changed was the MB and CPU.

My Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro no longer works.

In the device panel it said "Not Connected".

Re-installed, updated SW software to 3.02, updated to DX8a, still
to no avail.

On board joystick/sound is disabled, using SB live retail, same
card I had before.

Been through the MS troubleshooter, still not working.

It works when simulating a CH Pro and Thrustmaster, so the joystick
is fine and the joystick port is good. Just will not work in
Sidwinder joystick mode (lets you use all the buttons and features).

Need some of the brains around here to help out!!!

Please?

:frown: Hey I've been waiting for a thread like this to come up. I thought it was just my joystick but I have the same problem as you guys. I had an old K6-2 450 system and upgraded the mobo and the CPU but left everthing else the same. Same story, mine will work in emulated mode but won't detect it using the sidewinder drivers. I'm happy to know it wasn't just my setup or that I was going mad. As yet I have been unable to find an adequate solution to getting it to work using the MS drivers so I gave up. Maybe you will have better luck.

I had a similar issue two years ago, upgrading to the latest
drivers fixed the problem. Just looked for new drivers, to
no avail, same ones as years ago.

Link to Microsoft knowledge base Q189592 on "not connected" status. Verify that usb does not share irq with sound card. Try unplug, uninstall software, install software, plug in sequence for usb.

I've done everything in microsoft's knowledge base. I've upgraded to DX8, made sure nothing was in dual DMA mode, used sidewinder 2.0, 3.0, 3.02 and the sidewinder 3s patch, and lots of other stuff. I finally got it working in CH emulation, but that isnt really acceptable to me. I paid for those 4 extra buttons $#@# it.I'll try the stff from the article you posted, since I can't remember if i've tried that or not.

This is a question and a particular little bit of information, I came across by rereading all the details when trying to solve hard drive problems. The question, when you installed the M/B, did you do a fresh install of your operating system? I read because of differences in the BIOS from one mobo to the next, that you can have BIOS problems, if you don't do a fresh install. It is tempting as hell to try and get away without doing the fresh install. Maybe this applies or it doesn't. Hope it helps your thinking process at least. A fresh installation of your operating system can sometimes cure a multitude of problems, and it seems as though it will just be a matter of time before it is needed with all of our PCs, considering how much we constantly change something. I know I am guilty of it.

My Microsoft Sidewinder Pro is of a joystick/midi interface
type, not the USB model. It works in emulation mode for
CH, Thrustmaster, 2 button, and 4 button, but will not
work in the Sidewinder mode.

I've also tried all the fixes I could find on the MS site,
and tried everything, however remote, that popped up in the
knowledge base.

I still think it is a software issue, just like it was the
last time around, when I upgraded my processor.

Ok guys, I have found what at least seems to be the root of the problem. This does not fix it, but might help us explain it to ourselves If you look in dxdiag, under the input tab, that the driver the Sidewinder is trying to use is actually msgame.vxd. Now apparently, this virtual device driver does not point to sw3dpro.vxd appropriately. I renamed sw3dpro.vxd to msgame.vxd and it picked up the joystick just fine. The only problem is that it still dosent work right Only the buttons that work in the other modes work (not the 4 base buttons). However, it does actually pick up the joystick and see that it really is there. This was using version 3.02. Under ersion 2, I got blue screens . I know this isnt a fix, but it may give a little better idea of what is causing the problem.

BTW, I did a clean install
