I've been kicking around the idea of a new build lately to replace my quickly aging Core2Duo, and kinda got caught up in the moment at Microcenter. They seemed to actually have pretty good prices compared to online, and they had a deal going $25 off each for a motherboard and video card if you bought a CPU. So even after taxes it still seemed like a pretty good deal. I ended up with:

i5 6600K
Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 5 mobo
MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Armor Overclocked 6GB GDDR5

Out the door it was $590 which seemed decent , especially for a B&M. Am I going to be happy with this setup for a mid-range gaming box? I still need to figure out what to do about memory, PSU, disk, etc., but I'll probably consult the stickied build thread and look online for those.

Yeah, looks like a GREAT start to a 1080P gaming rig.

Edit: To add: Those "K" Skylake CPUs DO NOT come with a stock cooler, and whatever cooler you have on your C2D (unless it's a Noctua), will likely NOT fit your 1151 CPU.

So, you might need to buy a cooler for it.

If you're feeling frugal, you can recycle those parts from you C2D system. Except for RAM. (Although a C2D era PSU would be on my "replace soon" list.)

I ended up reusing an old Cooler Master case I had around from another computer (I have too many parts lying around), but my old PSU wasn't really up to snuff and I figured I might as well keep the old box running as a usable computer. It's not a bad machine despite its age.

I went with a 500GB Crucial SSD, a 650W EVGA G2 PSU, 16GB Crucial RAM. Pretty happy with the way it runs. Of course the day after I put it all together Microcenter advertised a very similar Powerspec box but with a 1070 for about the same price I paid for all of this. Oh well, I'll make myself feel better by assuming they cut corners on quality somewhere.

Looks good, but I would go with the other MSI 1060 cooler, that one might be a bit cheap. But ay, if your not looking into overclock the card, it works!
