Migrating PHP3-PHP4

I am considering migrating an Apache server from PHP3 to PHP4, are there any red flags that I should be aware of before I do this? Also, will my ".php3" files still be recognized by the new engine or do I have to change all the extensions to ".php4"?

The filename extension should be php, but I *think* it's backwards compatible. Don't quote me on that, though.
