Wow, Amplifier came off really bad in this thread. Totally took away the cred he had from his fat girlfriend thread.

But I don't like to be the person making the arguments, I'll let the US Army do that for me.

Brief List of US Army Jobs
APACHE Attack Helicopter Systems Repairer (94K)

Man Portable Air Defense System Crewmember (14M)
PATRIOT Fire Control Enhanced Operator/Maintainer (14E)
PATRIOT Launching Station Enhanced Operator/Maintainer (14T)
Tactical Automated Fire Control Systems Specialist (13C)
Cable Systems Installer/Maintainer (25L)

What do these all have in common? NONE OF THEM INVOLVE FRONT LINE COMBAT. How fvcking old are you to think that being in the military means the person is shooting a machine gun from a foxhole?

I'm sure that the army doesn't need technicians...

Turns out they do!

Oh and calling people cowards, just stfu. You don't even know the OP. Come to think of it, I don't know you. I bet you're a fat, balding ex-army recruit just waiting for retirement so you can live off a government check. Assumptions are a bitch aren't they?

The OP said he didn't want to go overseas, so that would very much limit that list down....

You know, in regards to your OP, as well as the posts following, we have a popular saying in the Navy. Choose your rate, choose your fate. (Rate is your job, FYI). If you don't want to be down in the hole (in the hot engineering space turning wrenches), then be a top sider. And vice versa. And I'm pretty sure that is how it is with any branch of the military. If you chose to do EOD in the Army, you are going to see some action of some kind. If you are a tweeker or something (*cough* FC *cough*), then you aren't going to be doing dirty work most likely...

Don't worry about the posts that aren't helpful to you--like everything else in the damn forums, take everything with a grain of salt. And there aren't too many things to strung up about... And let us know what you decide as well...

SUMMARY: Go ahead and join the Army, just don't choose a MOS of infantry or artillery (more or less)
Tas.

Couldn't care less.

People always say they don't care what the people here think of them. Then why do you spend your time here? It really speaks to your own feelings of self-worth.

IMO, people who join the military for money are fools and not the kind of people I want defending my country. According to the myriads of people in the military I've talked to, they're always the ones that freak out and fvck up and bitch about getting shot at. Don't want to get shot at? Don't take the job.

And in my experience, it's the people that forget that this is a job also that piss me off. You can give me all the money in the world, but if I don't have any damned time off, I can't spend any of it. But I do agree--if you can't take the heat, get out of the fvcking kitchen.

If your priority in life is the make money, don't join the fvcking military. If your priority in life is the put yours on the line, sacrificing a civilian life in turn for a job protecting the freedoms and liberties of your fellow countrymen, join the military.

I'm in the USAF in Italy and it's great. Choose your job based on the minimum ASVAB score required to get it, and chances are you won't be in any significant danger. The higher the score, the less dangerous the job (usually).

You sound like the kind of person that would get the guy next to you killed so don't insult the fine men and women who serve by trying to use the Military as your college payment plan.

Look buddy, I understand your patriotic feeling , but if you weren't ALL TALK you wouldn't be here on AT bashing some people that don't beleive in the concept of war , you would be somewhere on the frontline in Iraq fighting for what you beleive is right.

1) Where did the OP say that he didn't believe in the concept of war?
2) Where is Ronstang bashing anyone who fits that description?

It's not a job -- it's a profession. There's a difference, and if you don't understand what the difference is, perhaps you should separate.

He's not the one trying to get free money out of the deal, is he?

Nice edit for the strawman...

If you just need college money and that's the only reason for going into the military, don't dare do it. I can't think of many more stupid things you could do than to join the military not wanting to fight. For God's sake, the college money is a BENEFIT for the ones who are willing to give their lives for the country they love, not a reason to join!!

Please, do everyone a favor and get a loan or a scholarship or a grant or find a cheaper college.

I'll kindly recommend any one of our reserve branches. The Army Reserve is currently paying full tuition assistance (up to $250 per credit hour) in addition to your GI Bill payment. Consider the reserves in a branch and do like Bill Shatner, shop and compare at the same time.

Just take loans, I have a buddy thats in the Army Reserves (yah yah weekend warriors but he did his 6 before that), and he is in camp anaconda getting shot at (from less than 20yrds in one instance luckly the bad-guys lack aim) worst part is that he *started* college at 24 and then he got called up for his 2 years in Iraq so now he is going back to school as a sophomore at 27. Now sure the GI bill will pay for his 4 years but he will be almost middle aged when he finishes, and starts his career. Time is one thing you cannot buy back and let me tell you that starting college as a wet-behind-the-ears 18-19yr old is a BIG difference than starting as a 24yr old in terms of the people you will meet and the experiences you will have.
